Representations of war in francophone literary space : the cas of the Horn of Africa

2017

The war is an experience that, by its commotion, condemned to unspeakable. It forces writers to define the relationship they have with the language they practices when it does not metamorphose themselves. It is this sense that need dealing with the range of transgressions at work in the war story which, through formal and language disorders distortions that contribute to its development, inaugurates writing that escapes definitions categorizations. Instead of reporting on the disaster, the literary imagination is in an external object, searching the paradoxical experience aestheticisation a priori ineffable a way around the impotence of language to express the inexpressible. Nevertheless, h…

Cultural transposition: Italian didactic experiences inspired by Chinese and Russian perspectives on whole number arithmetic

2019

The paper presents some reflections and activities developed by researchers and teachers involved in teacher education programs on cultural transposition. The construct of cultural transposition is presented as a condition for decentralizing the didactic practice of a specific cultural context through contact with other didactic practices of different cultural contexts. We discuss the background theoretical issues of this approach and also give an analysis of two examples of cultural transposition experiences carried out in Italy. In particular, by means of qualitative analysis of some excerpts, discussions, and interviews, we show that the contact with different perspectives coming from Ch…

New Foldback transposable element TFB1 found in histone genes of the midge Chironomus thummi

1990

A new Foldback transposable element (TFB1) has been found in the histone H1-H3 intergenic region in the midge Chironomus thummi thummi. TFB1 has long terminal inverted repeats, composed of short, degenerate subrepeats and is flanked by nine or ten base-pair “target site” duplications. TFB1 is present in at least two adjacent histone gene units in Ch. th. thummi, indicating a homogenization of histone gene repeats. The copy number and chromosomal distribution of TFB1 are different in the closely related subspecies Ch. th. thummi and Ch. th. piger, showing that amplification, elimination and transposition of TFB1 have occurred recently during evolution.

Demonstration that the Group II Intron from the Clostridial Conjugative Transposon Tn5397 Undergoes Splicing In Vivo

2001

Previous work has identified the conjugative transposon Tn5397 from Clostridium difficile. This element was shown to contain a group II intron. Tn5397 can be conjugatively transferred from C. difficile to Bacillus subtilis. In this work we show that the intron is spliced in both these hosts and that nonspliced RNA is also present. We constructed a mutation in the open reading frame within the intron, and this prevented splicing but did not prevent the formation of the circular form of the conjugative transposon (the likely transposition intermediate) or decrease the frequency of intergeneric transfer of Tn5397. Therefore, the intron is spliced, but splicing is not required for conjugation o…

Recovery of Fusarium oxysporum Fo47 mutants affected in their biocontrol activity after transposition of the Fot1 element

2002

Trouvelot, S., Olivain, C., Recorbet, G., Migheli, Q., and Alabouvette, C. 2002. Recovery of Fusarium oxysporum Fo47 mutants affected in their biocontrol activity after transposition of the Fot1 element. Phytopathology 92:936-945. To investigate the biocontrol mechanisms by which the antagonistic Fusarium oxysporum strain Fo47 is active against Fusarium wilt, a Fot1 transposon-mediated insertional mutagenesis approach was adopted to generate mutants affected in their antagonistic activity. Ninety strains in which an active Fot1 copy had transposed were identified with a phenotypic assay for excision and tested for their biocontrol activity against F. oxysporum f. sp. lini on flax in greenho…

Indirect Protection System

2014

As it was characterised in Chap. 5 of this book, protection of IGOs in the EU law consists of two protection systems: the direct protection system and the indirect protection system. If the first protection system is generally ensured through the applicable Regulations that are applicable without their further transposition into the national law of EU Member States, the other one is generally ensured through directives to be further transposed into the national law of EU Member States.

Gray code for permutations with a fixed number of cycles

2007

AbstractWe give the first Gray code for the set of n-length permutations with a given number of cycles. In this code, each permutation is transformed into its successor by a product with a cycle of length three, which is optimal. If we represent each permutation by its transposition array then the obtained list still remains a Gray code and this allows us to construct a constant amortized time (CAT) algorithm for generating these codes. Also, Gray code and generating algorithm for n-length permutations with fixed number of left-to-right minima are discussed.

Genetic rearrangement of the atzAB atrazine-degrading gene cassette from pADP1::Tn5 to the chromosome of Variovorax sp. MD1 and MD2

2007

International audience; We report the characterization of the rearrangement phenomena responsible for the movement of the atrazine-degrading atzA and B genes from pADP1::Tn5 to the chromosome of Variovorax sp. MD1 and MD2. Long PCRs and Southern blot analyses revealed that the two genes forming a gene cassette moved in a unique rearrangement event. It also revealed that the boundaries of the plasmid sequence inserted in the chromosome correspond to IS1071or to sequences close to IS1071. It suggests that this genetic rearrangement could result from the transposition of the composite transposon delimited by IS1071 insertion sequences and containing atzA and atzB genes. In addition, for MD1 an…

La transposición creativa de Volpone de J. Romain y M. Tourneur

2016

We are well aware that, no matter how valuable a text may be, its afterlife in other cultural and linguistic contexts is heavily dependent on the translator’s ability to meet the needs and expectations of its target audience. This is precisely what French screenwriter Jules Romains and film director Maurice Tourneur did when adapting Jonson’s Volpone [1940] for the new medium at the advent of sound films. It is the aim of this article to cast light on their creative transposition of Ben Jonson’s theatrical masterpiece. Keywords : Romains; Tourneur; Volpone ; creative transposition

Redefining the MED13L syndrome

2015

Congenital cardiac and neurodevelopmental deficits have been recently linked to the mediator complex subunit 13-like protein MED13L, a subunit of the CDK8-associated mediator complex that functions in transcriptional regulation through DNA-binding transcription factors and RNA polymerase II. Heterozygous MED13L variants cause transposition of the great arteries and intellectual disability (ID). Here, we report eight patients with predominantly novel MED13L variants who lack such complex congenital heart malformations. Rather, they depict a syndromic form of ID characterized by facial dysmorphism, ID, speech impairment, motor developmental delay with muscular hypotonia and behavioral difficu…
