Background— Cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) inhibitors raise high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, but torcetrapib, the first-in-class inhibitor tested in a large outcome trial, caused an unexpected blood pressure elevation and increased cardiovascular events. Whether the hypertensive effect resulted from CETP inhibition or an off-target action of torcetrapib has been debated. We hypothesized that common single-nucleotide polymorphisms in the CETP gene could help distinguish mechanism-based from off-target actions of CETP inhibitors to inform on the validity of CETP as a therapeutic target. Supplementing air with CO2 stripped from recirculating aquaculture improves growth of two green microalgae in aquaculture wastewater

To improve sustainability and to implement the principles of circular economy in aquaculture, we tested the possibility to boost the capture of nitrate by two green microalgal species from recirculating aquaculture system's (RAS) wastewater by supplementing air with carbon dioxide stripped from a RAS. Carbon dioxide addition increased cell densities of Monoraphidium griffithii and Haematococcus pluvialis in photobioreactors during 9-day growing periods. However, growth rates and nitrate uptake rates were only improved for M. griffithii. Role of elastic and electronic interactions in trapping of hydrogen by impurities in transition metals

The interplay between the lattice distortion and the electronic contributions to the trapping of migrating hydrogen isotopes by substitutional impurities is investigated. We use a comprehensive calculational scheme incorporating (i) the effective-medium theory for the electronic interaction, (ii) the lattice Green’s function for elastic coupling, and (iii) the hydrogen quantum motion. The calculations for Ti and Cr impurities in V host show that lattice strain effects dominate. Cr, which otherwise provides an electronic trap site, does not induce trapping when elastic effects are incorporated. The situation in the case of Ti is just the reverse. The IGISOL facility has been moved into a new location at the acceleration laboratory of the University of Jyväskylä. The superconducting magnet that is part of the JYFLTRAP system has been re-energized. In this thesis a commissioning of the Penning trap apparatus JYFLTRAP is described. This involves a precise alignment of the structure of the trap along field lines of strong solenoid field. The alignment was completed successfully with a special alignment device. In addition, some improvements were done for the Penning traps and transfer line from RFQ cooler, and a buncher to the injection of Penning traps was built during this project. This empirical paper explores the work of employees in charge of service innovation when firms develop and launch new scale-intensive services by addressing two research questions: i) How do employees responsible for service innovation work? and ii) what are the related managerial implications when developing and launching new scale-intensive services?
