QEC value of the superallowed β emitter 42Sc

The QEC value of the superallowed β+ emitter Sc42 has been measured with the JYFLTRAP Penning-trap mass spectrometer at the University of Jyväskylä to be 6426.350(53) keV. This result is at least a factor of four more precise than all previous measurements, which were also inconsistent with one another. As a byproduct we determine the excitation energy of the 7+ isomeric state in Sc42 to be 616.762(46) keV, which deviates by 8σ from the previous measurement. peerReviewed
Space-Charge Effects with REXTRAP

The beam quality of radioactive ion beams produced by present target ion source technology is often not sufficient for direct post-acceleration. Furthermore, pulsed beams insure a more efficient use of an accelerator. In the case of REX-ISOLDE, the post accelerator at the CERN ISOLDE facility, a gas-filled Penning trap (REXTRAP) has been chosen for accumulation of the radioactive ions and conversion into cooled bunches. Radial centering of the ions is achieved by applying an rf field with a frequency equal to the cyclotron frequency of the desired ion species. Time Characteristics of the Ion Beam Cooler-Buncher at JYFL

A beam cooler for low-energy ion beams was constructed to improve the ion optical properties of radioactive ion beams produced at the IGISOL facility in Jyvaskyla. The beam cooler is a buffer gas filled RF-quadrupole. The delay properties and the possibility to accumulate a continuous IGISOL beam and release it in short bunches is discussed.

Iron is an essential micronutrient for all eukaryotic organisms because it participates as a redox-active cofactor in many biological processes, including DNA replication and repair. Eukaryotic ribonucleotide reductases (RNRs) are Fe-dependent enzymes that catalyze deoxyribonucleoside diphosphate (dNDP) synthesis. We show here that the levels of the Sml1 protein, a yeast RNR large-subunit inhibitor, specifically decrease in response to both nutritional and genetic Fe deficiencies in a Dun1-dependent but Mec1/Rad53- and Aft1-independent manner. Il saggio vuole studiare il modo in cui si è trasformata la memoria pubblica di Peppino Impastato, ucciso dalla mafia nel 1978 a Cinisi, paese vicino Palermo. Per farlo, si seguiranno i percorsi biografici di quattro militanti di Lotta continua, il gruppo politico nel quale Impastato aveva militato fino al 1976, che si collocava nel vasto e complesso mondo della sinistra italiana esterna al Partito comunista. Kvalifikācijas darbs “Sudoku mīklu veidošanas un risināšanas tīmekļa lietojumprogramma” izstrādāts ar mērķi aprakstīt izstrādes vadlīnijas sistēmai un izstrādāt sistēmu, kurā lietotāji var gan veidot un risināt Sudoku tipa mīklas, gan arī tās apspriest komentāru veidolā zem katras sistēmā publicētās mīklas. Izstrādātā sistēma ir tiešsaistē pieejama sistēma, kas ļauj jebkuram cilvēkam risināt sistēmā publicētās mīklas. Pēc reģistrācijas lietotāji spēj arī paši veidot savas mīklas un komentēt citu lietotāju veidotās mīklas. Sistēma nodrošina atgriezenisko saiti, pārbaudot ne tikai klasiskos Sudoku noteikumus, bet arī Vindoku papildnoteikumus un Šaha zirdziņa papildnoteikumus.
Inducing Strong Non-Linearities in a Phonon Trapping Quartz Bulk Acoustic Wave Resonator Coupled to a Superconducting Quantum Interference Device

International audience; A quartz Bulk Acoustic Wave resonator is designed to coherently trap phonons in such a way that they are well confined and immune to suspension losses so they exhibit extremely high acoustic Q-factors at low temperature, with Q × f products of order 10¹⁸ Hz. In this work we couple such a resonator to a Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) amplifier and investigate effects in the strong signal regime. Both parallel and series connection topologies of the system are investigated. Comparative survey on the population of the Kentish plover Charadrius alexandrinus in the salt pans of Trapani province. This paper deals with a 2016 census of the breeding population of the Kentish plover in the saltpans of trapani and of the Stagnone di marsala. In the same area a previous census of this species was carried out forty years ago by Massa (1977). the comparison between data collected in the 1970s and in 2016 reveals that the population of the Kentish plover has been dramatically declining, with 70% decrease in the overall area (ca. 1,230 ha).
