Double traumatic diaphragmatic injury: A case report.
2019
Highlights • Diaphragmatic injuries are rare complications from trauma. • Bilateral diaphragmatic injuries are extremely rare and just a few cases are reported. • Sometimes the diagnosis is delayed or even missed. • Both primary repair or mesh repair are safe and feasible. • The use of a polypropylene mesh with titanized surface has not been attempted before.

Biežāk sastopamo letālo galvas traumu rašanās mehānismi un morfoloģija
2017
Darba mērķi: Noteikt letālu galvas traumu iespējamos ietekmējošos riska faktorus, dzimuma sadalījumu, biežākās sastopamās vecuma grupas, saistību ar alkohola koncentrāciju asinīs; noteikt traumēto ķermeņa daļu skaitu atkarībā no traumas veida; noteikt bie…
The role of mitochondrial transition pore, and its modulation, in traumatic brain injury and delayed neurodegeneration after TBI
2009
Following severe traumatic brain injury (TBI), a complex interplay of pathomechanism, such as exitotoxicity, oxidative stress, inflammatory events, and mitochondrial dysfunction occurs. This leads to a cascade of neuronal and axonal pathologies, which ultimately lead to axonal failure, neuronal energy metabolic failure, and neuronal death, which in turn determine patient outcome. For mild and moderate TBI, the pathomechanism is similar but much less frequent and ischemic cell death is unusual, except with mass lesions. Involvement of mitochondria in acute post-traumatic neurodegeneration has been extensively studied during the last decade, and there are a number of investigations implicatin…
Blood Component Therapy and Coagulopathy in Trauma: A Systematic Review of the Literature from the Trauma Update Group
2016
Background Traumatic coagulopathy is thought to increase mortality and its treatment to reduce preventable deaths. However, there is still uncertainty in this field, and available literature results may have been overestimated. Methods We searched the MEDLINE database using the PubMed platform. We formulated four queries investigating the prognostic weight of traumatic coagulopathy defined according to conventional laboratory testing, and the effectiveness in reducing mortality of three different treatments aimed at contrasting coagulopathy (high fresh frozen plasma/packed red blood cells ratios, fibrinogen, and tranexamic acid administration). Randomized controlled trials were selected alo…
Bone Marrow Multipotent Mesenchymal Stromal Cells Transplantation Effects after Experimental Polytrauma in Rats

Pulmonary contusion: CT vs plain radiograms.
1989
In experimentally induced pulmonary contusions, CT (n = 27) and chest X-ray (n = 24) findings were compared with the findings at autopsy. Twenty-seven of 27 (100%) pulmonary contusions were visible by CT immediately after trauma compared with 9 of 24 (37.5%) in the chest X-ray. After 30 min follow-up, 18 of 24 (75%) lesions were seen on the plain film. Five of 24 (21%) contusions escaped detection on conventional radiographs. Computed tomography underestimated lesion size in 5 of 60 (8%) measurements, conventional radiographs in 21 of 36 (58%) measurements. Pathological examination never revealed a pulmonary contusion that was not demonstrated by CT. Therefore, pulmonary contusion seems unl…
Eher Trauma als erfüllter Traum: Flüchtlinge aus der DDR in Julia Francks Roman „Lagerfeuer“ (2012) und in Christian Schwochows Film „Westen“ (2013)
2020
This paper aims to investigate the descriptions of traumatic life experiences of refugees from the DDR in literature and film. This essay examines the novel Lagerfeuer (2003) of Julia Franck and the film version Westen (2013) directed by Christian Schwochow. The two East Germans artists show the existential traumas of those people who had to leave their homes from different perspectives and in different artistic genres.
