How was the Turin Shroud Man crucified?
2014
As the literature is not exhaustive with reference to the way the Turin Shroud (TS) Man was crucified, and it is not easy to draw significant information from only a "photograph" of a man on a linen sheet, this study tries to add some detail on this issue based on both image processing of high resolution photos of the TS and on experimental tests on arms and legs of human cadavers. With regard to the TS Man hands, a first hypothesis states that the left hand of the TS Man was nailed twice at two different anatomical sites: the midcarpal joint medially to the pisiform between the lunate/pyramidal and capitate/uncinate bones (Destot's space) and the radiocarpal joint between the radio, lunate…
2011
International audience; In his video works, all tightly focused on the Northern-Irish conflict, Willie Doherty probes the perpetrator-victim dyad and denounces the truncated visual representation of the conflict by deconstructing the relation between image and sound. The texts uttered by the voice-over raise political issues relevant to post-conflict Ireland, whether it be victimhood, national trauma or the construction of collective memory.

Psychological support for children who are victims of abuse in Cambodia: Culture as a developmental tool of traumatic experience
2020
When psychologists step in the humanitarian field, they are confronted with cultural and language issues during their intervention. The way of expressing trauma is deeply linked with the cultural background, thus it should guide and shape the psychological support to make it more appropriate. Within a Khmer NGO, we have set up a psychological support based on different sorts of mediation. Our patients were eight children with the same set of symptoms: recurrence and massive anxiety, most of the time appearing through animist cultural representations. In this article, we will first present the situation of Bonat, witness of domestic violence and of his mother’s death, and then the situation …
A life time in exile : Finnish war children in Sweden after the war : an interview study with a psychological and psychodynamic approach
2018
This study is based upon in-depth interviews with ten Finnish war children who were evacuated to Sweden during the Second World War (1939 -1944) and who did not return permanently to Finland after the war. This interpretative and qualitative interview study of war children seems to be the only one of its kind. The interviews were carried out in 2007 in Stockholm. At the time of the evacuation nine of the children were between two and five years of age and one was seven years old. At the time of the interviews they were approaching their seventieth birthday. The interviewees were asked to tell about their life. The method for this study was an application of Grounded Theory and Adult Attachm…
Uzvedības iezīmju, stresa pārvarēšanas stratēģiju, traumatiskas pagātnes pieredzes un ģimenes locekļa alkohola atkarības pieredze bērnībā saistības
2016
Tissue Oxygenation in Normal and Edematous Brain Cortex During Arterial Hypocapnia
1984
Since arterial hypocapnia causes a cerebral blood flow decrease, hypocapnic conditions are induced in patients with severe traumatic brain injury by controlled hyperventilation in order to reduce the intracranial pressure (Gordon, 1971). Beneficial effects on the clinical course of patients, however, can be observed only under conditions of moderate hypocapnia. As shown by animal experiments severe arterial hypocapnia results in insufficient oxygen supply conditions in brain tissue (Grote et al., 1981), which subsequently influences the brain metabolism (Granholm et al., 1969, 1971) and counteracts the influence of hypocapnia on cerebral blood flow regulation (Grote et al., 1981). The prese…
