La portada de la iglesia de las Escuelas Pías de Gandía. Su proceso constructivo y modulación arquitectónico-musical
2020
The facade of the church of the Pious Schools of Gandia has not attracted the attention of researchers. However, its conception has a great architectural culture and constitutes an essential work to understand its context, fundamentally, that of the theoretical treatises of the Renaissance. From this study it is wanted to value its architecture and that it is considered as an outstanding ingredient to know its period of construction in general and jesuit architecture in particular. For its understanding, its interpretation in the culture of contemporary architecture treaties and, especially, in the architectural-musical theory of Leon Battista Alberti will be necessary.. The hallmark of anonymity. Questions of authorship in the Hippocratic Corpus, specifically regarding the so-called 'Author C'
2020
Since Émile Littrés’ time a particular attention has been devoted to a group of Hippocratic treatises (On Generation/On the Nature of the Child + Book IV of Diseases) showing a significant range of affinities and common elements in language, style, tenor and thought. Studies by Hermann Grensemann (in the 1980s) contributed to further philological analysis of the peculiar traits of the so-called Hippocratic ‘author C’, widening the textual basis to be involved in the investigation (including gynaecological treatises like On Diseases of Women 1-2 as well as parts of Infertile Women). Recently new light has also been shed by Elizabeth Craik (editing 2009 the treatise On Glands) on the historic…
La drammatica-metodo italiano: trattati normativi e testi teorici
2013
2018
The sirventes of the troubadour era has been broadly studied, but there are not overall explanations concerning the evolution of the sirventes genre in the Catalan-speaking lands of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. This paper propounds a catalogue of sirventesos concerning its historical development, the troubadour models, rhetorical and grammatical treatises, and genre assignment in rubrics. Our catalogue contains thirty-one Catalan sirventesos , including twenty-eight extant items and three items lost. In some cases the literary motifs of the sirventes cross boundaries in a process of poetic hybridization with other moral genres which borrow out themes, images and rhetorical strate…
Perspective on Curved Surfaces in the Age of Pozzo: The Nuova Pratica di Prospettiva of Paolo Amato
2016
The study focuses an almost unknown treatise on perspective, The Nuova Pratica di Prospettiva, written by the priest Paolo Amato (1634–1714) in the last years of his life and published posthumously in 1733. The main points of interest of the Nuova Pratica is the perspective projection on cylindrical surfaces, which exceeds the coeval ‘practical’ treatises on perspective. A detailed resume of Amato’s treatise is accompanied by geometric schemes illustrating the perspective method proposed by the author. None of the paintings made by Amato has come down to us, but the vault covering a hall added to a Norman church in Palermo shows a trompe l’oeil that was painted by one of his favorite discip…
The ‘false vaults’ in the architecture of Sicily
2015
Between the end of the 17th century and the first decades of the 18th, Sicily was struck by several violent earthquakes. The total and partial collapse of monumental buildings produced a global debate involving various aspects of construction practice. One of the central topics of discussion was the construction of domes and large vaulted structures. Some architects studied the possibility of using so-called ‘false vaults’, a kind of lightweight structure created with a wooden frame, reed mats, and plaster. The technique was probably known by the 16th century and was used in a few major monuments, such as the dome of the Palermo Cathedral, in the mid-17th century. It was only after the Eart…
I Vari componenti d'architettura (1766) di Michele Vella
2013
Michele Vella, sculptor and antiquarian of Agrigento, born in nearby Raffadali, is known through chronicles and accounts of foreign travelers who visited "the city of temples" duringin the last few decades of the eighteenth century. Prior to devote himself to the study of ancient Agrigento and to become a "guide" of famous visitors, such as Goethe, he began to develop a treatise on architecture dedicated in 1766 to the bishop Andrea Lucchesi Palli. The unfinished manuscript titled Vari Componimenti d'Architettura is now located at the Library Lucchesiana of Agrigento.

Medyczne i religijne aspekty dbałości o bezpieczeństwo oraz dobrą kondycję wojsk bizantyjskich w świetle "Taktikonu" Leona VI
2017
Byzantine army in X century was one of the most complex and largest military machines in medieval history. Emperors and chieftains commanding this force had to care not only for the outcome of battles but also, and perhaps most importantly, for good condition and safety of the troops. Byzantine soldiers were expensive to train and equip so any losses would be harmful for the Empire, therefore some Emperors, Leo VI among them, created military treatises, that were basically handbooks for the Imperial army — fuli of regulations and recipes that would help commanders to lead and care for the army. Among many problems that treatises touched, two most important ones were conditions of health and…
