CHAIMELEON Project: Creation of a Pan-European Repository of Health Imaging Data for the Development of AI-Powered Cancer Management Tools

[EN] The CHAIMELEON project aims to set up a pan-European repository of health imaging data, tools and methodologies, with the ambition to set a standard and provide resources for future AI experimentation for cancer management. The project is a 4 year long, EU-funded project tackling some of the most ambitious research in the fields of biomedical imaging, artificial intelligence and cancer treatment, addressing the four types of cancer that currently have the highest prevalence worldwide: lung, breast, prostate and colorectal. Luigi Moretti è stato indubbiamente uno dei più grandi architetti italiani del ‘900. La sua fortuna iniziò durante il ventennio fascista, quando progettò diversi edifici per l’Opera Nazionale Balilla, tra cui la sede di Bitonto, edificio non realizzato di dimensioni contenute, a cui la storiografia ha dedicato pochissimo spazio, derubricandolo forse ad un’esperienza di secondo piano nella carriera dell’architetto romano. Three dimensional reconstruction to visualize atrial fibrillation activation patterns on curved atrial geometry

BackgroundThe rotational activation created by spiral waves may be a mechanism for atrial fibrillation (AF), yet it is unclear how activation patterns obtained from endocardial baskets are influenced by the 3D geometric curvature of the atrium or ‘unfolding’ into 2D maps. We develop algorithms that can visualize spiral waves and their tip locations on curved atrial geometries. We use these algorithms to quantify differences in AF maps and spiral tip locations between 3D basket reconstructions, projection onto 3D anatomical shells and unfolded 2D surfaces.MethodsWe tested our algorithms in N = 20 patients in whom AF was recorded from 64-pole baskets (Abbott, CA). FIMic: design for ultimate 3D-integral microscopy of in-vivo biological samples

In this work, Fourier integral microscope (FIMic), an ultimate design of 3D-integral microscopy, is presented. By placing a multiplexing microlens array at the aperture stop of the microscope objective of the host microscope, FIMic shows extended depth of field and enhanced lateral resolution in comparison with regular integral microscopy. As FIMic directly produces a set of orthographic views of the 3D-micrometer-sized sample, it is suitable for real-time imaging. Development of a three-dimensional cell culture system based on microfluidics for nuclear magnetic resonance and optical monitoring

A new microfluidic cell culture device compatible with real-time nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is presented here. The intended application is the long-term monitoring of 3D cell cultures by several techniques. The system has been designed to fit inside commercially available NMR equipment to obtain maximum readout resolution when working with small samples.
