Chemical Profile and Biological Activity of Cherimoya (Annona cherimola Mill.) and Atemoya (Annona atemoya) Leaves

2020

Annona cherimola (Cherimoya) and Annona atemoya (Atemoya) are tropical plants known for their edible fruit. Scientific data suggest that their leaves, used in traditional medicine in the form of teas or infusions without evidence of toxicity, contain several bioactive compounds. However, only Annona muricata among all the Annona species is currently used in the nutraceutical field, and its dried leaves are marketed for tea preparation. In this work, we explored the nutraceutical potential of Atemoya and Cherimoya leaves, by evaluating their chemical profile and functional properties. Phytochemical analyses showed large amounts of phenolic compounds, in particular proanthocyanidins, and iden…

3-(6-Phenylimidazo [2,1-

2019

A new series of imidazo[2,1-b][1,3,4]thiadiazole derivatives was efficiently synthesized and screened for their in vitro antiproliferative activity on a panel of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) cells, including SUIT-2, Capan-1 and Panc-1. Compounds 9c and 9l, showed relevant in vitro antiproliferative activity on all three pre-clinical models with half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) ranging from 5.11 to 10.8 µM, while the compounds 9e and 9n were active in at least one cell line. In addition, compound 9c significantly inhibited the migration rate of SUIT-2 and Capan-1 cells in the scratch wound-healing assay. In conclusion, our results will support further studies to increa…

Triterpenoid saponins from Polycarpaea corymbosa Lamk. var. eriantha Hochst.

2013

Abstract Four triterpenoid saponins (1–4) were isolated from Polycarpaea corymbosa Lamk. var. eriantha Hochst along with the known apoanagallosaponin IV (5). Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic data analysis. Among the compounds 1, 3–5 which were evaluated for their cytotoxicity against three tumor cell lines (SW480, DU145 and EMT6), compound 1 exhibited cytotoxicity with IC50 values ranging from 4.61 to 22.61 μM, which was greater than that of etoposide. Compound 2 was tested only against SW480 and a cardiomyoblast cell line (H9c2), and was inactive.

Two new diterpenoids from kencur (Kaempferia galanga): Structure elucidation and chemosystematic significance

2021

Abstract Aromatic ginger or kencur (Kaempferia galanga L.) rhizomes are ground as a spice or pickled for consumption in south-east Asian cuisines; although widely used, until recently it has been less studied chemically than white and red ginger. Hydro-distillate extracts have identified several compounds that exhibit anticancer activity against select tumor cell lines in vitro, and most recently chemical analyses have focused on rhizome metabolites present in organic extracts. Here we report on two new diterpenoids including Δ8(14),15 polyhydroxlated isopimardienes, 1α-hydroperoxy-2α,6,7-trihydroxy-isopimara-6(7),8(14),15-triene (kaemgalangol E; 1) and 1α,7β-hydroxy-isopimara-8(14),15-dien…

The Status of EGFR Modulates the Effect of miRNA-200c on ZEB1 Expression and Cell Migration in Glioblastoma Cells

2020

Migration of glioblastoma cells into surrounding tissue is one of the main features that makes this tumor incurable. We evaluated whole-genome miRNA expression profiling associated with different EGFR amplification patterns in 30 cases of primary glioblastoma. From the 64 miRNAs that showed differential expression between tumors with a high level of EGFR amplification and tumors without EGFR amplification, 40% were related with cell migration, being miR-200c the most differentially expressed between these two groups. We investigated the effect of miR-200c on ZEB1 expression and cell migration in an in vitro transfection model with a miR-200c mimic, a miR-200c inhibitor and siRNA targeting E…
