Hormone Replacement Therapy Associated White Blood Cell DNA Methylation and Gene Expression are Associated With Within-Pair Differences of Body Adipo…

2015

The loss of estrogen during menopause causes changes in the female body, with wide-ranging effects on health. Estrogen-containing hormone replacement therapy (HRT) leads to a relief of typical menopausal symptoms, benefits bone and muscle health, and is associated with tissue-specific gene expression profiles. As gene expression is controlled by epigenetic factors (including DNA methylation), many of which are environmentally sensitive, it is plausible that at least part of the HRT-associated gene expression is due to changes in DNA methylation profile. We investigated genome-wide DNA methylation and gene expression patterns of white blood cells (WBCs) and their associations with body compo…

EMAS position statement: Predictors of premature and early natural menopause.

2019

Simoncini, Tommaso/0000-0002-2971-0079; Chung, Hsin-Fang/0000-0003-3261-5942; Mishra, Gita/0000-0001-9610-5904 WOS:000468709100014 PubMed ID: 31027683 Introduction: While the associations of genetic, reproductive and environmental factors with the timing of natural menopause have been extensively investigated, few epidemiological studies have specifically examined their association with premature (< 40 years) or early natural menopause (40-45 years). Aim: The aim of this position statement is to provide evidence on the predictors of premature and early natural menopause, as well as recommendations for the management of premature and early menopause and future research. Midlife in the United States (MIDUS 2), 2004-2006

2007

In 1995-1996, the MacArthur Midlife Research Network carried out a national survey of 7,108 Americans aged 25 to 74 (MIDLIFE IN THE UNITED STATES (MIDUS), 1995-1996 [ICPSR 2760]). The purpose of the study was to investigate the role of behavioral, psychological, and social factors in understanding age-related differences in physical and mental health. The study was innovative for its broad scientific scope, its diverse samples (which included twins and the siblings of main sample respondents), and its creative use of in-depth assessments in key areas (e.g., daily stress and cognitive functioning). A description of the study and findings from it are available at http://www.midus.wisc.edu. Wi…

Theatrum niezwykłości w "Kronice wszytkiego świata" Marcina Bielskiego

2016

Praca dotyczy fenomenu niezwykłości w dawnych wiekach.

Genetic effects on mobility, obesity and their association in older female twins

2009

Nowadays it is common that men and women gain weight during their adulthood, arriving to older ages with excessive body weight or obesity. This may potentially have adverse consequences on health in late life, as for example, it can lead to higher difficulties to move in everyday life and eventually to earlier disability. Many studies have shown that in older population obesity and mobility problems are hand-by-hand. The main aim of the present investigation was to elucidate the extent to which this relation between mobility and obesity could be explained by common genetic and environmental influences in older women. This research utilized data from 434 Finnish twin sisters gathered during t…

The Associations Between Leisure-Time Physical Activity and Academic Performance: A Twin Study

2021

Background: Both genetic and environmental influences have been shown to contribute to the association between physical activity and overall academic performance. The authors examined whether leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) shares genetic and environmental variances between spelling, essay writing, reading aloud, reading comprehension, and mathematics in early adolescence. Moreover, they investigated whether genetic polymorphisms associated with physical activity behavior affect these academic skills. Methods: Participants were 12-year-old Finnish twins (n = 4356–4370 twins/academic skill, 49% girls). Academic skills were assessed by teachers, and LTPA was self-reported. Polygenic sco…

eTwinning e Scuole Nuove: collaborazione e valorizzazione del patrimonio culturale

2022

At the beginning of the twentieth century, the spread of numerous educatio…
