Combining Hexanoic Acid Plant Priming with Bacillus thuringiensis Insecticidal Activity against Colorado Potato Beetle
2013
Interaction between insect herbivores and host plants can be modulated by endogenous and exogenous compounds present in the source of food and might be successfully exploited in Colorado potato beetle (CPB) pest management. Feeding tests with CPB larvae reared on three solanaceous plants (potato, eggplant and tomato) resulted in variable larval growth rates and differential susceptibility to Bacillus thuringiensis Cry3Aa toxin as a function of the host plant. An inverse correlation with toxicity was observed in Cry3Aa proteolytic patterns generated by CPB midgut brush-border membrane vesicles (BBMV) from Solanaceae-fed larvae, being the toxin most extensively proteolyzed on potato, followed…
Changes in the protein profile of Quercus ilex leaves in response to drought stress and recovery
2009
To characterize the molecular response of holm oak to drought stress and its capacity to recover 9-month-old Quercus ilex seedlings were subjected to three treatments for a 14-d period: (i) continuous watering to field capacity (control plants, W), (ii) no irrigation (drought treatment, D), and (iii) no irrigation for 7d followed by a watering period of 7d (recovery treatment, R). In drought plants, leaf water potential decreased from -0.72 (day 0) to -0.99MPa (day 7), and -1.50MPa (day 14). Shoot relative water content decreased from 49.3% (day 0) to 47.7% (day 7) and 40.8% (day 14). Photosystem II quantum yield decreased from 0.80 (day 0) to 0.72 (day 7) and 0.73 (day 14). Plants subjecte…
Tunable Strong Coupling of Mechanical Resonance between Spatially Separated FePS3 Nanodrums
2021
Coupled nanomechanical resonators made of two-dimensional materials are promising for processing information with mechanical modes. However, the challenge for these types of systems is to control the coupling. Here, we demonstrate strong coupling of motion between two suspended membranes of the magnetic 2D material FePS$_3$. We describe a tunable electromechanical mechanism for control over both the resonance frequency and the coupling strength using a gate voltage electrode under each membrane. We show that the coupling can be utilized for transferring data from one drum to the other by amplitude modulation. Finally, we also study the temperature dependence of the coupling, and in particul…
The novel structure of the core oligosaccharide backbone of the lipopolysaccharide from the Plesiomonas shigelloides strain CNCTC 8089 (serotype O13)
2013
The new structure of the core oligosaccharide of Plesiomonas shigelloides CNCTC 80/89 (serotype O13) lipopolysaccharide has been investigated by chemical methods, (1)H and (13)C NMR spectroscopy and matrix-assisted laser-desorption/ionization time of flight (MALDI-TOF). It was concluded that the core oligosaccharide of P. shigelloides CNCTC 80/89 is a nonasaccharide with the following structure: The position of glycine was determined by MALDI-TOF MS/MS analyses.
Oleanolic acid and hederagenin glycosides from Weigela stelzneri
2015
Four previously undescribed and one known oleanolic acid glycosides were isolated from the roots of Weigela stelzneri, and one previously undescribed and three known hederagenin glycosides were isolated from the leaves. Their structures were elucidated mainly by 2D NMR spectroscopic analysis and mass spectrometry as 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-[β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 → 4)]-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-α-L-arabinopyranosyloleanolic acid, 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-[β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 → 4)]-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-β-D-xylopyranosyloleanolic acid, 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-[β-…
New amide and dioxopiperazine derivatives from leaves of Breynia nivosa
2017
The first chemical investigation of leaves of Breynia nivosa from Nigeria resulted in the isolation of two new amide derivatives breynivosamides A and B (1 and 2) and two new dioxopiperazine derivatives breynivosines A and B (4 and 5) together with seven known compounds (3, 6-11). The structures of the new compounds were elucidated by 1D, 2D NMR and HRESIMS data as well as by comparison with the literature. All isolated compounds were tested for the cytotoxic and antimicrobial activities. Only cristatin A (6) showed cytotoxicity against the L5178Y mouse lymphoma cell line with an IC50 value of 13.9μM while breynivosamide A (1) exhibited moderate antimicrobial activity against Mycobacterium …
Onco-fetal/laminin-binding collagen from colon carcinoma: detection of new sequences.
1995
We have recently identified an oncofetal-laminin binding collagen (OF/LB) composed of three alpha chains, with the apparent molecular mass of about 100 kDa each, but bearing different pI. One of the chains appears markedly acidic in a bidimensional electrophoretic system, where the NEPHGE is used as first dimension separating gel, while the two more basic chains have similar migration as alpha 1(III) and alpha 1(I) collagen chains, respectively. Sequence analyses have been performed on CNBr-peptides, derived from pepsinized triple helical molecules and on tryptic fragments obtained after in gel digestion of the acidic band. The research of sequence homology with computerized databases indic…
Theoretical and experimental NMR studies on muscimol from fly agaric mushroom (Amanita muscaria)
2015
In this article we report results of combined theoretical and experimental NMR studies on muscimol, the bioactive alkaloid from fly agaric mushroom (Amanita muscaria). The assignment of (1)H and (13)C NMR spectra of muscimol in DMSO-d6 was supported by additional two-dimensional heteronuclear correlated spectra (2D NMR) and gauge independent atomic orbital (GIAO) NMR calculations using density functional theory (DFT). The effect of solvent in theoretical calculations was included via polarized continuum model (PCM) and the hybrid three-parameter B3LYP density functional in combination with 6-311++G(3df,2pd) basis set enabled calculation of reliable structures of non-ionized (neutral) molecu…
Unexpected identification and characterization of a cathinone precursor in the new psychoactive substance market: 3',4'-methylenedioxy-2,2-dibromobut…
2019
Abstract 3′,4′-methylenedioxy-2,2-dibromobutyrophenone has been identified and fully characterized in a sample obtained from an anonymous consumer acquired as ketamine through the Internet market. The substance has been deeply characterized by using standard and high performance analytical techniques such as: attenuated total reflectance-infrared spectroscopy, gas chromatography–mass spectrometry, high-resolution mass spectrometry, elemental analysis, and nuclear magnetic resonance, including 1H, 13C, distortionless enhancement by polarization transfer, two dimensional homonuclear 1H-1H correlation spectroscopy, and 1H-13C heteronuclear single-quantum correlation spectra. 3′,4′-methylenedio…
Two-dimensional 1 H NMR spectra of ferricytochrome c 551 from Pseudomonas aeruginosa
1993
AbstractThe full assignment of 1H NMR signals of heme proton resonances of ferricytochrome c551 from Pseudomonas aeruginosa has been performed by means of 2D NMR experiments. This technique allows the complete and unequivocal assignment of all heme resonances, including methylene resonances of the propionic groups, directly implicated in the pH dependence of the redox properties of cytochrome c551.
