The computational power of continuous time neural networks

1997

We investigate the computational power of continuous-time neural networks with Hopfield-type units. We prove that polynomial-size networks with saturated-linear response functions are at least as powerful as polynomially space-bounded Turing machines.

Bounded Computational Capacity Equilibrium

2010

We study repeated games played by players with bounded computational power, where, in contrast to Abreu and Rubisntein (1988), the memory is costly. We prove a folk theorem: the limit set of equilibrium payoffs in mixed strategies, as the cost of memory goes to 0, includes the set of feasible and individually rational payoffs. This result stands in sharp contrast to Abreu and Rubisntein (1988), who proved that when memory is free, the set of equilibrium payoffs in repeated games played by players with bounded computational power is a strict subset of the set of feasible and individually rational payoffs. Our result emphasizes the role of memory cost and of mixing when players have bounded c…

Following the Money: Revenue Stream Constituents in Case of Within-firm Variation

2014

The idea of this paper stems from the perception that the concept of revenue stream requires clarification and further division to be applicable to businesses with high internal variation in their methods of capturing revenue. Current study sets out to investigate the concept of revenue stream through an overview of previous literature and a case study to demonstrate how revenue streams of a b2b (business-to-business) software service firm can be analyzed by elaborating the concept further. The aim is to answer the following research questions: 1) What are the relevant constituents of the revenue stream concept within a b2b software services firm? 2) How revenue stream as part of the busine…

Eomyops noeliae sp. nov., a new Eomyidae (Mammalia, Rodentia) from the Aragonian of Spain

2009

Abstract A new species of Eomyops, Eomyops noeliae, is described. from the locality MT-20A (Morteral section, Magro basin, eastern Spain). It is intermediate in size between the large eomiid, E. hebeiseni, and the small species of the group E. catalaunicus, E. bodvanus and E. oppligeri. The age range is Lower Aragonian. MT-20A is located between deposits that contain Megacricetodon primitivus and M. collongensis. Morphologically, E. noeliae sp. nov. is clearly different from the rest of species of the genus, due to an important reduction of the lingual anteroloph of M1,2,3 and the labial anterolophid of M3. The lower incisor shows two parallel ridges along the enamel like the type species o…

Review of thermal infrared applications and requirements for future high-resolution sensors

2016

High-resolution thermal infrared (TIR) remote sensing has a wide range of applications. In this paper, we describe the different applications and requirements identified in a literature review and during a consultation meeting with researcher experts in different fields. As a result, more than 30 applications were identified within three different fields: 1) land and solid Earth; 2) health and hazards; and 3) security and surveillance. A complete set of requirements (spatial, temporal, and radiometric resolution, algorithms used, and supporting data, among others) for each application is also provided. The results presented in this paper provide useful information to enhance the importance …

A novel dynamic multi-model relevance feedback procedure for content-based image retrieval

2016

This paper deals with the problem of image retrieval in large databases with a big semantic gap by a relevance feedback procedure. We present a novel algorithm for modelling the users's preferences in the content-based image retrieval system. The proposed algorithm considers the probability of an image belonging to the set of those sought by the user, and estimates the parameters of several local logistic regression models whose inputs are the low-level image features. A Principal Component Analysis method is applied to the original vector to reduce its high dimensionality. The relevance probabilities predicted by these local models are combined by means of a weighted average. These weights …

Spatial joins

2019

The spatial join is a popular operation in spatial database systems and its evaluation is a well-studied problem. This paper reviews research and recent trends on spatial join evaluation. The complexity of different data types, the consideration of different join predicates, the use of modern commodity hardware, and support for parallel processing open the road to a number of interesting directions for future research, some of which we outline in the paper.

Chances for Parliamentary Politics Today

2018

In the final chapter, the contemporary situation of parliamentary politics is discussed. The chances and limits of the parliamentary ideal type are situated to the current horizons of Western European politics. The main point is to emphasise the priority of dissensus and debate over outcomes as the main advantage of parliamentary-style politics over the narrowly teleological forms of human activities. With different thought experiments we could imagine to parliamentarise procedures and practices. These themes are discussed in terms of Perelmanian conceptual pairs of rhetoric, from a perspective that first presents the obstacle to parliamentarisation and discusses chances for a revaluation i…

A G468-T AMPD1 mutant allele contributes to the high incidence of myoadenylate deaminase deficiency in the Caucasian population.

2002

Myoadenylate deaminase deficiency is the most common metabolic disorder of skeletal muscle in the Caucasian population, affecting approximately 2% of all individuals. Although most deficient subjects are asymptomatic, some suffer from exercise-induced myalgia suggesting a causal relationship between a lack of enzyme activity and muscle function. In addition, carriers of this derangement in purine nucleotide catabolism may have an adaptive advantage related to clinical outcome in heart disease. The molecular basis of myoadenylate deaminase deficiency in Caucasians has been attributed to a single mutant allele characterized by double C to T transitions at nucleotides +34 and +143 in mRNA enco…

A critical evaluation of caplacizumab for the treatment of acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura

2020

Introduction: Acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (aTTP) is a thrombotic microangiopathy caused by inhibitory autoantibodies against ADAMTS13 protein. Until recently, the combination of plasma exchange (PEX) and immunosuppression has been the standard front-line treatment in this disorder. However, aTTP-related mortality, refractoriness, and relapse are still a matter of concern. Areas covered: The better understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms of aTTP has allowed substantial improvements in the diagnosis and treatment of this disease. Recently, the novel anti-VWF nanobody caplacizumab has been approved for acute episodes of aTTP. Caplacizumab is capable to block the adh…
