Major histocompatibility complex regulation of the class of the immune response: the H-2d haplotype determines poor interferon-γ response to several …
1990
The lymph node cells of CBA (H-2k), but not BALB/c (H-2d) mice, release interferon (IFN)-gamma into the supernatant when immunized with picryl chloride epicutaneously and then exposed to antigen (haptenized cells) in vitro 4 days later. The failure in IFN-gamma production maps to the major histocompatibility complex (MHC; H-2d) in the congenic BALB/c, BALB/k and BALB/b mice. The evidence that this is an MHC regulation of the class of response to a range of antigens and not a classical Ir gene effect is (a) the difference is seen with several antigens including picryl chloride, "oxazolone" and purified protein derivative of tuberculin and (b) BALB/c mice, which fail to produce IFN-gamma, sho…
Cluster analysis of clinical data reveals three pediatric eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorder phenotypes
2022
Primary eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders (EGIDs) are a spectrum of emerging inflammatory diseases, which may involve any part of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and lead to a pathological eosinophilic mucosal infiltration.1,2 Based on the anatomical site of the eosinophil inflammation, EGIDs are classified into eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) and nonesophageal EGIDs.This study aimed to characterize EGIDs heterogeneity by performing cluster analysis on a cohort of children and adolescents followed at the Pediatric Center for Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorders (CPED) in Pavia, Italy, using an extensive pediatric primary care database from our University Hospital
La violencia de hijos adolescentes contra sus progenitores
2013
[EN] According to Prosecutor¿s Office of the Minor, the accusation interposed by mothers and/or fathers victims by theirs children, along 2007 were 2603, in 2008 amounted 4.211, in 2009 there were 5.209 and in 2010 there were 8.000 accusations. Suede this worrying increase, the principal aim of our article is to check the scientific international and national documentation, from 1957 until the year 2010 that analyses the phenomenon of the adolescent violence against parents, to achieve an approximation to its keys that there allows us the comprehension and analysis of this serious familiar problem. For it we will analyse: (a) the importance of this crime by means of criminological mediators…
Phylogeography and genetic variation of Triatoma dimidiata, the main Chagas disease vector in Central America, and its position within the genus Tria…
2008
Background Among Chagas disease triatomine vectors, the largest genus, Triatoma, includes species of high public health interest. Triatoma dimidiata, the main vector throughout Central America and up to Ecuador, presents extensive phenotypic, genotypic, and behavioral diversity in sylvatic, peridomestic and domestic habitats, and non-domiciliated populations acting as reinfestation sources. DNA sequence analyses, phylogenetic reconstruction methods, and genetic variation approaches are combined to investigate the haplotype profiling, genetic polymorphism, phylogeography, and evolutionary trends of T. dimidiata and its closest relatives within Triatoma. This is the largest interpopulational …
Comparing Translation and Post-editing: An Annotation Schema for Activity Units
2016
The current chapter introduces an annotation schema of TPR data that categorises post-editing behaviour into five different classes and compares general-language and domain-specific English-to-German translation and post-editing with respect to production times, key-logging (text production activity and text elimination activity) and eye-tracking data (total reading times on source text and on target text). The results support the hypothesis that post-editing is faster than translation from scratch for both domain-specific and non-domain-specific text types. When key-logging and eye-tracking data are taken into consideration, domain-specific texts require more effort when translating from s…
Preclinical immunomodulation by the probiotic Bifidobacterium breve M-16V in early life
2016
This study aimed to investigate the effect of supplementation with the probiotic Bifidobacterium breve M-16V on the maturation of the intestinal and circulating immune system during suckling. In order to achieve this purpose, neonatal Lewis rats were supplemented with the probiotic strain from the 6th to the 18th day of life. The animals were weighed during the study, and faecal samples were obtained and evaluated daily. On day 19, rats were euthanized and intestinal wash samples, mesenteric lymph node (MLN) cells, splenocytes and intraepithelial lymphocytes (IEL) were obtained. The probiotic supplementation in early life did not modify the growth curve and did not enhance the systemic immu…
Analysis of impaired in vitro immunoglobulin synthesis in rheumatoid arthritis.
1990
Decreased immunoglobulin production in pokeweed mitogen driven lymphocyte cultures has been reported in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Here various activators and experimental designs have been used to determine the contribution of B cells, T cells, or monocytes to this low response. Sixty patients with RA and paired controls were studied at the onset of disease and again six months later. Concentrations of IgA, IgG, and IgM in cultures of RA peripheral blood mononuclear cells stimulated with thymus dependent activators were already decreased at the onset of the disease. Six months later RA mononuclear cells produced even lower concentrations of immunoglobulin. In contrast, stimulation with a T…
Hybridization in Capparis spinosa L.: Molecular and morphological evidence from a Mediterranean island complex
2014
Inter-Simple Sequence Repeat (ISSR) molecular markers and morphological analysis were used in order to characterize wild populations and cultivated forms of orphan crop species Capparis spinosa L. in a Mediterranean island complex. Nineteen wild populations belonging to two different subspecies, C. spinosa subsp. spinosa and subsp. rupestris, were sampled in different environments in Sicily and the surrounding islets Lampedusa, Pantelleria and Salina. Different biotypes cultivated in Pantelleria and Salina were analyzed. Six ISSR primers were selected for genetic characterization, and all clear and reproducible bands were scored and analyzed. Among the 47 ISSR bands obtained, 97.5% were pol…
INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE: PERCEPTION AND REPRESENTATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IN GUANAJUATO. A QUALITATIVE RESEARCH
Intimate partner violence and domestic violence refer to the violation of women’s rights, often provoked by socio-cultural norms based on a patriarchal matrix. In Mexican society, in particular, gender-based violence affects the physical and psychological well-being of Mexican women. Moreover, the social representations of women who suffer violence and the lack of an effective legislative framework often reproduce the legitimation of gender-based violence, enhancing negative stereotypes and prejudices. In this scenario, the voice of the women who suffer violence in intimate relationships is silenced. In particular, in public and academic debates the impact and consequences of violence again…
