Urban Traffic Analysis through an UAV
2014
Abstract In order to realize a precise and accurate traffic study, a method to evaluate the real traffic flow conditions in urban areas based on videos acquired by an UAV, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, is proposed. In this way it does not require additional equipment to earth and, not being invasive, does not influence the driver behavior. This paper presents the results obtained in terms of vehicular traffic flow along a way in the city of Palermo. The results have been compared to experiments using macroscopic simulation models and the eventually differences have been discussed.
Plot rill erosion measurements by close-range photogrammetry using natural events at Sparacia experimental area
2018
Recently, many investigations were carried out in order to check the applicability of both close-range and UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) photogrammetry to measure soil erosion processes. For measuring rill erosion occurring on a 22 m long and 26% sloped plot occurred on 24 October 2016 at the Sparacia experimental area, a terrestrial photographic relief and a low altitude aerial relief were carried out by no-professional quadricopter and camera. The three-dimensional (3D) DTM and the quasi-tridimensional (DEM) models were obtained. An extraction method of the rill network using DEM and convergence index was applied and a subsequent separation of rills into contributing and non-contributing …
A case study of a precision fertilizer application task generation for wheat based on classified hyperspectral data from UAV combined with farm histo…
2013
Different remote sensing methods for detecting variations in agricultural fields have been studied in last two decades. There are already existing systems for planning and applying e.g. nitrogen fertilizers to the cereal crop fields. However, there are disadvantages such as high costs, adaptability, reliability, resolution aspects and final products dissemination. With an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) based airborne methods, data collection can be performed cost-efficiently with desired spatial and temporal resolutions, below clouds and under diverse weather conditions. A new Fabry-Perot interferometer based hyperspectral imaging technology implemented in an UAV has been introduced. In this…
UAV Systems for Photogrammetric Data Acquisition of Archaeological Sites
2012
The use of UAV systems for surveying archaeological sites is becoming progressively more common due to the considerable potential in terms of rapidity of survey, costs and accuracy. The paper presents the first results of the photogrammetric survey of the archaeological site of Himera in Sicily (Italy) using by UAV systems. A complete documentation of the site through the production of a DSM and an ortho image were carried out. The research further evaluated two different image processing workflows: a typical photogrammetric approach and a computer vision approach. An ortho image of the archaeological site with a very high resolution was obtained. Dept. of Civil, Environmental, Aerospace an…
Preliminary design of an unmanned Wing In Ground effect craft.
2009
This paper describes a systematic technique for preliminary conceptual design of Unmanned Wing in Ground Effect Craft (U-WIGs). Application of the methodology to a small U-WIG to be employed in tasks like coastal patrolling, oceanography, civil protection, control and monitoring, is presented. A mission profile and numerical mission specifications on minimum payload weight conveyable, cruising speed, minimum cruising altitude and autonomy suitable for the intended craft duties are imposed. On the basis of such specifications, take off weight is estimated via the fuel fraction method. Due to the lack of statistical information for small sized unmanned WIGs, data available for UAVs are used, …
Numerical simulations of the aerodynamics characteristics for a non-conventional unmanned WIG.
2009
In this paper we present our research about a particular ultralight WIG. WIG is the acronym of Wing In Ground effect vehicle. This work is part of a research on the dynamic behaviour for an UAV-WIG with a particular Tandem – Canard arrangement, study which the authors have been carrying out from several years. In previous paper the same Authors built a general mathematical model which permit to obtain analytical equations for all the aerodynamic coefficients both Out of Ground Effect and In Ground Effect conditions. In this paper, a numerical validation of the above mentioned mathematical model is proposed by the application of CFD methods. The mesh has been generated using ICEM 10.0 and th…
Simulation of a UAV ground control station
2012
International audience; In this article we present the development of a UAV ground control station simulator. We propose a module based description of the architecture of this simulator. We recall the nonlinear model of a fixed-wing aircraft. Finally, we outline ideas for improved path planning tasks. The approach is made clearthrough several diagrams, figures of the resulting station are displayed.
Coverage path planning based on waypoint optimization, with evolutionary algorithms.
2019
The goal of this paper is to optimize the coverage of a vast and complexarea such that its mosaic image can be created. To find the best waypoints, twomethods have been investigated: Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and GeneticAlgorithms (GA). Our investigation proved that GA is a better method due toits performance and adaptability. After having performed experiments to compare the algorithms, a hybridization of GA and PSO is investigated. The proposed method can be applied on large areas with irregular shapes, such as agricultural fields, and it provides a minimized number of waypoints that must be flown over by the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). The experiments were made to simulate the …
Aerial multispectral imagery for site specific weed management
2017
AGROSUPSPEEAGESTADCT1DOCT; In an agroecological context (French Law on the Future of Agriculture), the reduction of herbicide uses become a crucial issue. It requires developing new technologies allowing a better knowledge of the field. The company AIRINOV, specialized in use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) dedicated to precision agriculture wants to explore a new approach by UAV to localize weed infestation areas. This work aims to develop a method analyzing images acquired by UAV to detect and map weeds in a field. The study is carried out on crops widely grown in France and requiring weed control at a young state of the plant : maize, sunflower and sugar beet. With its on-board sensors …
