Objetivo: Analizar factores asociados con amputación en pacientes diabéticos que presentan úlceras en sus pies, con el fin de identificar sujetos con alto riesgo para amputación. Método: Hemos estudiado 152 diabéticos que acudieron a la Unidad del pie diabético desde enero de 1996 hasta junio de 1998 con úlceraciones en sus pies. En 14 de ellos fue necesaria la amputación. Se excluyeron sujetos con gangrena. Background To evaluate the clinical and histopathological effects of natural extracts in the treatment of oral ulcers induced in animal experimental models. Material and methods We carried out a search in the Medline, Scopus, WoS and Embase databases from the start of the databases to December 2020, and also made a manual search of the references. Diabetic foot ulcers: Retrospective comparative analysis from Sicily between two eras

Aim The aim of this study was to analyze changes in the incidence, management and mortality of DFU in Sicilian Type 2 diabetic patients hospitalized between two eras, i.e. 2008–2013 and 2014–2019. Methods We compared the two eras, era1: 2008–13, era2: 2014–19. In era 1, n = 149, and in era 2, n = 181 patients were retrospectively enrolled. Results In the population hospitalized for DFU in 2008–2013, 59.1% of males and 40.9% of females died, whilst in 2014–2019 65.9% of males and 34.1% of females died. The chronic use of hydroxyurea (HU) in some oncologic and non-oncologic diseases (psoriasis, sickle cell anemia) can be accompanied by side effects, both systemic and mucocutaneous. The most severe adverse events known in HU therapy are leg ulcers and cutaneous carcinomas. At skin level may also appear: xerosis, persistent pruritus, skin color changes (erythema, hyperpigmentation), cutaneous atrophy. Likewise, oral ulcerations and stomatitis may occur at mucosal level. Leflunomide is a member of the disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs group used as a treatment modality in active rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis. “Oral ulcers” are reported in 3-5% of leflunomide medicated rheumatoid arthritis patients with adverse events, but they are not described in detail in the literature. We present a case of an ulcer in the tongue of a rheumatoid arthritis patient managed with leflunomide and contemplate on its pathogenesis. Key words:Leflunomide, oral ulcer, DHODH.

Mucosal ulcerations are an oral complication that can often affect kidney transplant patients, mostly due to the effect of immunosuppression.
