Radiation resistance and optical properties of lead fluoride Cherenkov crystals

Abstract Optical properties of large size lead fluoride (PbF 2 ) crystals of three different manufacturers and their degradation caused by 60 Co γ-radiation have been investigated. Transmission losses have been systematically studied at absorbed energy doses between 0.1 and 7 kGy. Several radiation induced absorption bands have been observed. Optical bleaching with light of wavelengths ≳365 nm has been found very effective to restore the original characteristics even after repeated irradiations. This observation together with the high density and the ultraviolet extended transmission make PbF 2 an excellent choice for high rate and high resolution e.m. calorimetry.
Perspectives of XUV sources development on LASERIX facility, ILE, and ELI

In this paper we present the perspectives of the development of the XUV laser sources using High-power laser facilities. We focus our paper on the present statuts of the LASERIX facility and especially its role in the development of the XUV laser sources considering the French "Institut de la Lumiere Extreme" (ILE) and the potential European project Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI).
Experimental investigations of backward transition radiation characteristics in extreme ultraviolet region

ABSTRACT This report summarizes the results of an experiment dedicated to the observation of backward transition radia-tion in the EUV spectral region. This radiation was ge nerated by an 855MeV electron beam at a molybdenumtarget. The radiation characteristics in the EUV region are compared to those in the optical region. It wasshown that the radiation measured in the EUV region was more intense than theoretically predicted. Observation of two-XUV-photon ionization using harmonic generation from a short, intense laser pulse

We report the observation of a two-photon ionization process in the XUV wavelength regime. In a near-resonant 1 + 1 ionization scheme, Ar atoms are ionized absorbing the 15 eV third harmonic photons produced in a gas jet by the 0.5 ps intense laser pulses of a KrF excimer laser emitting at 248.6 nm. The present demonstration of a non-linear process in the XUV regime reveals feasibility of high-intensity applications utilizing the uniquely high peak power of non-conventional short wavelength radiation sources based on harmonic generation.

Evidence for small amounts of very hot plasma has been found in active regions and might be the indication of an impulsive heating, released at spatial scales smaller than the cross section of a single loop. We investigate the heating and substructure of coronal loops in the core of one such active region by analyzing the light curves in the smallest resolution elements of solar observations in two EUV channels (94 A and 335 A) from the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly on-board the Solar Dynamics Observatory. Measurements of integrated direct, diffuse and global ultraviolet-B radiation

Abstract We present the first multiyear set of simultaneous measurements of the global ultraviolet-B radiation and its two components: direct and diffuse. The measurements have been taken with four YES-UVB-1 radiometers: two radiometers to measure the diffuse radiation, one provided with a shadow band and the other with a shadow disk on a Sun tracker; a radiometer to measure the global horizontal radiation; and a Sun-tracking radiometer to measure the direct radiation with an especially designed radiance collimator. The cornerstone of Quantum Field Theory is renormalization. We shall speak more about in the next chapters. Before, it is necessary to discuss the method. The best and most simple is, of course, dimensional regularization (doesn’t break the symmetries, doesn’t violate the Ward Identities, preserves Lorentz invariance, etc.). When explained consistently, it becomes very simple and clear. Here, we shortly discuss ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) divergences with a few examples. However, in Chap. 8, we shall extensively treat one-loop two and three-point functions and analyse many more examples of IR and UV divergences.
Ageing studies of TPB in noble gas detectors for dark matter and neutrinoless ββ decay searches

Noble gases (Xe, Ar, Kr) are very attractive as detector media in Dark Matter search and neutrinoless double-beta decay experiments. However, the detection of their scintillation light (in the VUV spectral region) requires shifting the VUV light to visible light, where standard photosensors are more efficient. Tetraphenyl butadiene (TPB) is widely used as wavelength shifter, absorbing the VUV light and re-emitting in the blue region (~430nm). TPB is an organic molecule that may degrade due to exposure to environmental agents and also to ultraviolet light. Laser driven structured quantum rings

In this work we study harmonic emission from structured quantum rings (SQRs). In SQRs, electrons trapped in two-dimensional structures are further confined by an external potential composed of N scattering centers arranged on a circle. We build a suitable one-dimensional model Hamiltonian describing this class of systems and analytically solve the associated Schödinger equation. We find that the solution can be expressed in terms of Mathieu functions and focus on the specific case of N = 6. By exactly solving the time-dependent Schödinger equation, we then show how the harmonic response to linearly polarized lasers strongly depends on the ring physical parameters. In this paper we report the perspectives of the development of the XUV laser sources and applications using High-power laser facilities. We focus our paper on the present status of the French LASERIX facility and more especially about its role in the development of the XUV laser sources considering the French "Institut de la Lumiere Extreme " (ILE) and the potential European project Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI).
