O-Ribosyl-phosphate purine as a constant modified nucleotide located at position 64 in cytoplasmic initiator tRNAsMetof yeasts

1991

The unknown modified nucleotide G*, isolated from both Schizosaccharomyces pombe and Torulopsis utilis initiator tRNAs(Met), has been identified as an O-ribosyl-(1"----2')-guanosine-5"-phosphate, called Gr(p), by means of HPLC, UV-absorption, mass spectrometry and periodate oxidation procedures. By comparison with the previously published structure of Ar(p) isolated from Saccharomyces cerevisiae initiator tRNA(Met), the (1"----2')-glycosidic bond in Gr(p) has been postulated to have a beta-spatial conformation. The modified nucleotide Gr(p) is located at position 64 in the tRNA(Met) molecules, i.e. at the same position as Ar(p). Since we have also characterized Gr(p) in Candida albicans ini…

Classification of vegetable oils according to their botanical origin using amino acid profiles established by High Performance Liquid Chromatography …

2010

Abstract A preliminary study using amino acid profiles to classify oils according to their botanical origin has been performed. Amino acid profiles were obtained from hydrolysis of proteins present in vegetable oils, and established by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with UV–vis detection. Proteins present in hazelnut, corn, soybean, olive, avocado, peanut and grapeseed oils were precipitated with acetone, and the residue was hydrolysed in acid medium. The amino acids obtained were derivatized with o -phthaldialdehyde and separated by HPLC. Peaks corresponding to 18 amino acids were observed using a C18 column and a gradient of acetonitrile–water in the presence of a 5 mM citr…

The production of resveratrol (3,5,4'‐trihydroxystilbene) by grapevinein vitrocultures, and its application to screening for grey mould resistance

1992

The ability of grapevine in vitro cultures to synthesise the phytoalexin precursor resveratrol in response to ultraviolet light irradiations is investigated in order to develop methods for screening for resistance to grey mould (Botrytis cinerea Pers.) in grapevines produced as a result of somatic embryogenesis. It is demonstrated that resveratrol formation can be reproducibly induced in leaves of in vitro plantlets. Differences in the production of resveratrol among the three varieties of Vitis vinifera tested (Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon) were consistent with observations regarding their field susceptibility to grey mould. The use of phytoalexin induction and of in vitro…

Thermo- and photo-oxidative stability and improved processability of polyamide stabilized with a new functional additive

2005

During processing polyamides can undergo thermo-mechanical degradation due to the mechanical stress and to the high temperature applied to the melt. Degradation can occur also during the polyamides lifetime due to many driving forces, like temperature, ultraviolet radiations, etc. The mechanisms of degradation are not well understood and the stabilization with usual stabilizers, like phenol antioxidants, is not so efficient as for other classes of polymers. The aim of this work is the study of the effects of the addition of a new multifunctional additive on the processing and on the thermo- and photo-stabilization of polyamide-6. This additive is able to prevent the thermo-mechanical degrad…

UV-photometrische analyse kationisch erzeugter polystyrole, 1. Nachweis des covalenten einbaus von acylresten aus aromatischen acylperchloraten

1983

Polymerization of styrene was found not to take place with 4-phenylazobenzoyl perchlorate in benzene solution. 4-Biphenylcarbonyl perchlorate, however, initiates styrene polymerization under the same conditions leading to a product not containing acyl groups as indicated by UV spectroscopic analysis. 4-Phenylazobenzoyl, 2-naphthoyl, and 9,10-dioxo-2-anthracenecarbonyl perchlorate (6b, 7b, and 8b), prepared form silver perchlorate and the corresponding acyl chlorides 6a, 7a, and 8a in styrene, were found to initiate the polymerization of styrene under anhydrous conditions at −25°C in the dark. By UV spectroscopy it could be shown that the resulting polymers contain covalently bound acyl grou…

1992

A series of copolymers are synthesized by repetitive Diels-Alder polyaddition reaction of bifunctional cyclohepta-1,3,5-trienes with bifunctional 1,2,4-triazoline-3,5-diones. The copolymers of different bistriazolinediones with a bisdiene, or of different biscycloheptatrienes with a dienophile, have good solubility in CH2Cl2 and CHCl3, while the homopolymers are poorly soluble. The copolymers were characterized by standard analytical techniques to test the structural regularity of these systems. Due to the kinetic control, it is possible to apply copolymerization statistics to these systems. Based on a model study, it is concluded that alipatic and aromatic bistriazolinediones have the same…

A Bichromophore Based on Perylene and Terrylene for Energy Transfer Studies at the Single-Molecule Level

1999

A functionalized dialkylperylene and a modified terrylenetetracarboxdiimide (TTCDI) were joined by a hexanediyl spacer. The resulting bichromophoric molecule 1 (R = 4-tert-butylphenoxy) is a suitable model system for donor–acceptor energy transfer studies at the single-molecule level.

Synthesis and Electronic Spectra of Substitutedp-Distyrylbenzenes for the Use in Light-Emitting Diodes

2000

The influence of substitution on the absorption and Luminescence spectra of oligo(phenylenevinylene)s has been studied using distyrylbenzene (DSB) as a model compound. The degree, character, and pattern of substitution was varied systematically, altering the electronic properties of the DSB, the wavelength of the emitted light could be tuned over a range of 100 nm. The syntheses of 6b—h were performed by twofold Wittig Horner-olefinations of bisphoshonates 1a, b with substituted benzaldehydes 2a—i, 6ivia Heck-reaction of the dibromosulfonylbenzene 3, 6k by Siegrist-reaction of 4 with N-phenylbenzaldimine and the Knoevenagel-reaction of benzyl cyanide with 5 led to 6l.

[39] DNA damage induced by ultraviolet and visible light and its wavelength dependence

2000

Publisher Summary DNA damage induced by solar radiation in mammalian cells consists largely of two types of modification: pyrimidine dimers and oxidative modifications. Pyrimidine dimmers that can be subdivided into cyclobutane pyrimidine dimmers, (CPDs) and (6-4) photoproducts are the characteristic and most abundant modifications after direct excitation of DNA, although they can also be formed indirectly by energy transfer from other excited molecules such as carbonyl compounds. Oxidative DNA damage, which includes various pyrimidine and purine modifications, sites of base loss (AP sites), and strand breaks, is generated in only low yield after direct excitation of DNA (except at very sho…

A study of VUV emission and the extracted electron-ion ratio in hydrogen and deuterium plasmas of a filament-driven H−/D− ion source

2019

Vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) emission diagnostics for studying differences of electron impact processes in hydrogen and deuterium plasmas are presented. The method is applied to study a filament driven multicusp arc discharge negative ion source by comparing the VUV-emission intensities of different emission bands and extracted currents of H−/D− ions and electrons. It was found that the ratio of coextracted electrons to extracted ions is four times higher for deuterium than for hydrogen. No significant differences of the VUV-spectra or volumetric rates of ionization, excitation, production of high vibrational states, and dissociation were found between the plasmas of the two isotopes. The volum…
