The computing capabilities of current multi-core and many-core architectures have been used in crowd simulations for both enhancing crowd rendering and simulating continuum crowds. However, improving the scalability of crowd simulation systems by exploiting the inherent parallelism of these architectures is still an open issue. The purpose of this study is to identify if the addition of a protocol of progressive active mobilization with dose and training load control to usual care is effective in reducing the length of stay in intensive care unit (ICU) and the improvement of the functioning, incidence of ICU-acquired weakness (ICUAW), mechanical ventilation duration and mortality rate in patients hospitalized in ICU. This article focuses on two non-fiction works by Native American author N. Scott Momaday: his 1969 historical memoir The Way to Rainy Mountain and his essay collection The Man Made of Words. It specifically tackles performative conceptions of language in the Kiowa storytelling tradition, where words are experienced as speech acts that have the power to intervene in surrounding realities. Taking into account 20th century ethno-cultural and linguistic policies in the United States, the article also reflects on the role indigenous languages may play in contemporary Native American Literature, which has most often been written in English.

Abstract Introduction This is the report of the first official survey from the Italian Society of Pediatric Surgery (ISPS) to appraise the distribution and organization of bedside surgery in the neonatal intensive care units (NICU) in Italy. Methods A questionnaire requesting general data, staff data and workload data of the centers was developed and sent by means of an online cloud-based software instrument to all Italian pediatric surgery Units. Results The survey was answered by 34 (65%) out of 52 centers. NICU bedside surgery is reported in 81.8% of the pediatric surgery centers. Increasing the data transfer rate in the High Frequency (HF) range involves enlarging the bandwidth of the channel from the standard value of 3 kHz to values of 6, 12, 24, 48 and even 96 kHz. Real-time evaluation of the noise power in the channel under such conditions is essential. This paper aims to implement an automated system for real-time measurement of noise in the HF range. The programming interface allows to implement algorithms using extensions to standard C language. With continuously increased number of cores in combination with a high memory bandwidth, a recent GPU offers incredible resources for general purpose computing. Purified ATP synthase (F0F1) from Rhodospirillum rubrum was reconstituted into asolectine liposomes which were then adsorbed to a planar lipid bilayer. After the addition of an inactive photolabile ATP derivative (caged ATP), ATP was released after illumination with u.v.-light, which led to a transient current in the system. The transient photocurrent indicates that the vesicles and the planar membrane are capacitatively coupled. Stationary pump currents were obtained after addition of protonophores.
