Postprandial triglyceridaemia is modulated by insulin resistance but not by grade of obesity in abdominal and morbid obese subjects

Background Obesity is associated with high cardiovascular risk. Postprandial lipidaemia has been associated with cardiovascular disease risk. Our aim was to identify whether anthropometric parameters, insulin resistance (IR) and/or fasting plasma triglycerides may determine postprandial changes in lipoprotein concentrations in abdominal and morbid obese subjects. This work aimed to evaluate whether a dietary deficiency in omega-3 PUFAs may increase the severity of dry eye in a scopolamine-induced rat model. Effects of dietary conjugated linoleic acids in the control of adiposity and obesity‐related disorders

The body fat-lowering effect of conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) in experimental animals has attracted much interest because of the potential use of CLA as weight loss agents in humans. The objective of this review was to give an overview of the results from human intervention trials. The review also addresses experimental studies in animal models and in cultured cells. CLA appear to provoke fat mass loss and an increase of fat-free mass in rodents, but the results in humans are inconsistent and much less clear than in rodents. Purpose: Plasmalogens are particular phospholipids characterized by the presence of a vinyl-ether bond and of a polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) at sn-1 and sn-2 positions of glycerol, respectively. Even if the plasmalogen content of organs and tissues is well documented, their biological functions are still enigmatic. On the volumetric response of a compacted clay subjected to wetting and drying cycles

Experimental evidence on the volumetric response of a compacted clay was collected in controlled suction oedometric tests, with the aim to assess the volumetric response of this soil when subjected to wetting and drying cycles. The overall soil behaviour seems mainly to depend on the double structural arrangement observed in the compacted specimens.
