Calculation of shear influences on the phase separation of polymer blends exhibiting upper critical solution temperatures

1994

Calculations were performed on the basis of a generalized Gibbs energy of mixing G γ, which is the sum of the Gibbs energy of mixing of the stagnant system and E s, the energy stored in the system during stationary flow. With increasing shear rate γ, the demixing temperatures shift to lower values (shear-induced mixing; diminution of the heterogeneous area), then to higher values (shear-induced demixing), and finally to lower values again before the effects fade out. The details of the rather complex phase diagrams resulting for a given shear rate are primarily determined by a band in the T/χ plane (χ = mole fraction) within which (∂2 E s/∂χ2) T UCST where they submerge. Bound to a suitable…

Radical Formation by Fine Particulate Matter Associated with Highly Oxygenated Molecules

2019

Highly oxygenated molecules (HOMs) play an important role in the formation and evolution of secondary organic aerosols (SOA). However, the abundance of HOMs in different environments and their relation to the oxidative potential of fine particulate matter (PM) are largely unknown. Here, we investigated the relative HOM abundance and radical yield of laboratory-generated SOA and fine PM in ambient air ranging from remote forest areas to highly polluted megacities. By electron paramagnetic resonance and mass spectrometric investigations, we found that the relative abundance of HOMs, especially the dimeric and low-volatility types, in ambient fine PM was positively correlated with the formatio…

La cineradiografia digitale nella diagnosi e nel trattamento chirurgico dei disordini motori della giunzione faringo-esofagea

2004

The aim of the study was to report our experience with the use of radiology in functional disorders of the cricopharyngeal muscle and their surgical therapy using digital cineradiology. Five-hundred and seventy dysphagic patients underwent dynamic study of the oral and pharyngeal phases of swallowing (Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Study, VFSS). A motor disorder of the cricopharyngeal muscle was diagnosed by videofluorography in 19 patients: the disorder was mild in 8, moderate in 7 and severe in 4. Two of these underwent cricopharyngeal myotomy, with an improvement in their dysphagia and swallowing mechanisms. VFSS provides a morphological and functional view of the aero-digestive tracts: th…

Wiadomości o rudzkim opactwie cystersów – na podstawie dokumentu fundacyjnego z kapsuły czasu kościoła w Stanicy z 1802 r

2019

Upper Bound for the Approximation Error for the Kirchhoff-Love Arch Problem

2013

In this paper, a guaranteed and computable upper bound of approximation errors for the Kirchhoff-Love arch problem is derived. In general, it belongs to the class of functional a posteriori error estimates. The derivation method uses purely functional arguments and, therefore, the estimates are valid for any conforming approximation within the energy space. The computational implementation of the upper bound is discussed and demonstrated by a numerical example.

Local minimizers and gamma-convergence for nonlocal perimeters in Carnot groups

2020

We prove the local minimality of halfspaces in Carnot groups for a class of nonlocal functionals usually addressed as nonlocal perimeters. Moreover, in a class of Carnot groups in which the De Giorgi's rectifiability Theorem holds, we provide a lower bound for the $\Gamma$-liminf of the rescaled energy in terms of the horizontal perimeter.

Modelling the influence of nanoparticles in the phase behaviour of an epoxy/polystyrene mixture

2007

Abstract The cloud point temperatures of four series of epoxy/polystyrene blends have been experimentally determined as a function of polymer mass and system composition. The phase diagrams show an UCST behaviour, increasing incompatibility as the molar mass increases. The Flory–Huggins theory with a concentration-dependent interaction parameter has been developed to study the compatibility of two polymers in presence of spherical nanoparticles. This theory has been first compared with the experimental cloud point curve in absence of nanoparticles, and secondly it has been used to predict the thermodynamic behaviour in presence of different volume fraction of nanoparticles. Nanoparticles co…

Shear-Induced Crystallization and Shear-Induced Dissolution of Poly(ethylene oxide) in Mixtures with Tetrahydronaphthalene and Oligo(dimethyl siloxan…

2003

Cloud point temperatures (T cp ) and crystallization temperatures (T 1/s ) were measured at different constant shear rates for the ternary system tetrahydronaphthalene/poly(ethylene oxide)/oligo(dimethyl siloxane-b-ethylene oxide) using a rheo-optical device and in the case of T 1/s additionnaly a viscometer. This system enables for the first time a joint investigation of both transitions with a given mixture. Shear favors the homogeneous liquid state and the formation of crystals. T cp (liquid/liquid demixing, UCST) shifts to lower and T 1/s (liquid/solid, segregation of PEO) to higher temperatures by several degrees as the shear rate, γ, is increased up to 500 s -1 . The normalized shift …

2015

The current state of knowledge on the fungus weevils (Coleoptera: Anthribidae) of Lower and Upper Silesia is presented. On the basis of data from literature and gathered by authors, from Lower Silesia 19 species have been recorded until now, while from Upper Silesia 17 species. Three species ( Choragus horni, Ch. sheppardi, Pseudeuparius sepicola) are new for these regions.
