ANATOMICAL DISSECTION AND ANALYSIS OF THE STRUCTURES OF THE UPPER LIMB
2017
In 2015, a whole body dissection course was proposed by the University of Palermo (UoP), Palermo, Italy, thanks to the cooperation with the University of Malta (UoM), Msida, Malta. The purpose of this study was to show the difference between the study of anatomy on books and on corpses. The article focuses its attention on the dissection method of the upper limb. The study was performed on two corpses, a male and a female, by using a basic surgeon kit. Blunt dissection method was used for fasciae, innards and to isolate vascular-nervous structures from the fat; we used scalpel for cutis, sub cutis, muscles and tendons. We compared the anatomy figured by books and cadaver’s anatomy. We separ…
The Influence of Fatigue on Throwing and YBT-UQ Performance in Male Adolescent Handball Players
2020
Purpose: The goal of the present study was to assess the effects of fatigue on throwing and Upper Quarter Y Balance Test (YBT-UQ) performance in male adolescent handball players. We hypothesized that throwing and YBT-UQ performance will be decreased in response to an upper-body fatigue-protocol.Method: All male participants (N = 24, age: 14.8 ± 0.7 yrs) were handball players of a regional youth selection team. A radar gun was used for the assessment of throwing velocity. The YBT-UQ was executed assessing medial, inferolateral and superolateral reach directions normalized to the upper limb length together with a composite score. Immediately following a fatigue protocol of different sets of p…
Vascularized composite allotransplantation - a Council of Europe position paper
2017
After more than 120 hand-upper extremity and 37 face transplant procedures performed worldwide, vascularized composite allotransplantation (VCA) now falls under the scope of organ transplant legislation in Europe and the United States. While in the USA, VCA has been considered as standard care since 2014, VCA in Europe is still performed through clinical research trials, except in United Kingdom. However, after two decades of favourable experience with upper extremity transplantation (UET), professionals in Europe are proposing hand allotransplantation as “controlled standard” care, as opposed to face transplantation (FT), which is still a challenging activity. The European Committee on Org…
Searches for lepton number violation and resonances in K± → πμμ decays
2017
The NA48/2 experiment at CERN collected a large sample of charged kaon decays to final states with multiple charged particles in 2003–2004. A new upper limit on the rate of the lepton number violating decay K±→π∓μ±μ± is reported: B(K±→π∓μ±μ±)<8.6×10−11 at 90% CL. Searches for two-body resonances X in K±→πμμ decays (such as heavy neutral leptons N4 and inflatons χ ) are also presented. In the absence of signals, upper limits are set on the products of branching fractions B(K±→μ±N4)B(N4→πμ) and B(K±→π±X)B(X→μ+μ−) for ranges of assumed resonance masses and lifetimes. The limits are in the (10−11,10−9) range for resonance lifetimes below 100 ps.
Search for pair production of first or second generation leptoquarks in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV using the ATLAS detector at the LHC
2011
This paper describes searches for the pair production of first or second generation scalar leptoquarks using 35 pb−1 of proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at √s=7 TeV. Leptoquarks are searched in events with two oppositely-charged muons or electrons and at least two jets, and in events with one muon or electron, missing transverse momentum and at least two jets. After event selection, the observed yields are consistent with the predicted backgrounds. Leptoquark production is excluded at the 95% CL for masses MLQ<376 (319) GeV and MLQ<422 (362) GeV for first and second generation scalar leptoquarks, respectively, when assuming the branching fraction of a leptoquark…
Zu den Ursachen lexikalischer Transferenz vor dem Hintergrund des deutsch-polnischen Sprachkontaktes in Oberschlesien
2021
Multilingualism and language contact were confirmed as historical phenomena already in ancient times. However, it did not find its way into scientific research until the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries. Since then, a comprehensive terminology has been developed in order to investigate and describe the effects of language contact. A common phenomenon in this field is lexical transfer, which bilingual people often use to bridge their lack of competence in the second language. However, the cause of the transfer of lexemes from one language to the other can also occur from the lesser to the better mastered language in the case of asymmetrical bilingualism, which therefor…
From a “Student” to a Lifelong “Consumer” of Education? Constructions of Educability in Adult Students’ Narrative Life Histories
2010
The focus of this study was to examine the constructions of the educable subject of the lifelong learning (LLL) narrative in the narrative life histories of adult students at general upper secondary school for adults (GUSSA). In this study lifelong learning has been defined as a cultural narrative on education, “a system of political thinking” that is not internally consistent, but has contradictory themes embedded within it (Billig et al., 1988). As earlier research has shown and this study also confirms, the LLL narrative creates differences between those who are included and those who fall behind and are excluded from the learning society ideal. Educability expresses socially constructed…
Gutters egne refleksjoner omkring hvorfor de avsluttet videregående opplæring, og hva som skal til for å fullføre utdanning : En kvalitativ studie ba…
2018
Masteroppgave psykisk helsearbeid ME504 - Universitetet i Agder 2018 Throughout our working carrier we have met youth who had dropped out from upper secondary school with that consequence that they stand without work or education. We wish to approach the phenomenon dropouts from the perspective of the youth, here boys, to try to find out more about how they think of their own possibilities. This study is part of a research project at the University of Agder and represents a contribution to the research group “Ung i Sør”. The purpose of this study is to increase understanding around how boys explain the causes behind their choice to dropout and what they express can contribute to returning t…

Expectation Damages and Bilateral Cooperative Investments
2012
We examine the efficiency of the standard breach remedy expectation damages in a setting where the buyer invests cooperatively and the seller invests both cooperatively and selfishly. Contracts may specify a required quality level and an upper bound to the seller's coordination costs. We find that it is optimal to write an augmented Cadillac contract in which quality is stipulated such that it cannot be met with positive probability together with a very low price. Thus, the seller becomes a residual claimant and the coordination-cost threshold can be used to balance the incentives of the buyer.
