Productive and extractive districts in a state of neglect are in dire need of regeneration, especially brownfields that are in rur-urban sites and could disfigure the landscape. These elements should be considered as resources to define a new territorial value. The present paper shows an empirical example of brownfield re-cycle that produce social innovation in rur-urban sites, this case study is the Añana salt valley and it is situated in Spain. Brownfields, in fact, are catalysts of social, economic, cultural, and ecological revitalization. Il contesto è un volume dedicato a ricordare e approfondire, da differenti punti di vista, la figura di Edoardo Caracciolo, ingegnere e architetto, riconosciuto capostipite della scuola di Urbanistica dell’Università degli Studi di Palermo. Questo saggio ripercorre la storia della sua carriera di docente universitario a partire dalla fondazione a Palermo, nel 1944, della Facoltà di Architettura, in cui emerge il suo ruolo formativo trainante e la sua influenza sugli sviluppi della cultura architettonica del primo dopoguerra in Sicilia fino alla sua morte improvvisa avvenuta nel 1962.
