The influence of cerium to urea preparation ratio of nanocrystalline ceria catalysts for the total oxidation of naphthalene

2008

The influence of cerium salt/urea ratio on the activity of nanocrystalline ceria catalysts prepared by homogeneous precipitation with urea for the complete oxidation of naphthalene has been evaluated. Ceria catalysts were prepared from five different cerium salt/urea ratios (2:1, 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4). Catalyst characterization (by BET, XRD and TPR) only revealed subtle differences in the characteristics of these catalysts with cerium salt to urea ratio. However, Raman and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results indicated differences in the oxygen defect concentration (FWHM of Raman band) and morphology of the catalysts with variation of the preparation ratio. Catalysts prepared with 2:…

The European External Action Service: Torn apart between several principals or acting as a smart 'double-agent'?

2014

Published version of an article in the journal: Journal of Contemporary European Research. Also available from the publisher at: http://www.jcer.net/index.php/jcer/article/view/605/494 Open Access The European External Action Service (EEAS) is a hybrid and compound institutional actor in the EU’s multi-level administration with delegated authority from the member states (MS) to conduct the EU’s external action. Substantial competences, notably in the field of Neighbourhood and Trade policies, as well as Development and Cooperation remain under the control of the European Commission (Commission). At the same time, also Members of the European Parliament (EP) are more clearly voicing their in…

Thiourea Based Tritopic Halogen Bonding Acceptors

2023

Series of thiourea based tritopic receptor molecules were synthesized to be used as building blocks for halogen-bonded assemblies. Here 16 new receptor molecules were synthesized from two different 2,4,6-trialkyl-1,3,5-tris(bromomethyl)benzene starting materials via tris(isothiocyanatomethyl)benzene intermediates. The alkyl substituents in the benzene ring showed to be important for isothiocyanate group formation instead of competing thiocyanate group. The synthesis route allowed us to synthesize the isothiocyanate intermediates and further the receptor molecules without typically used and highly toxic thiophosgene. Synthesized receptor molecules were used to study their halogen bond accept…

Monikielisyyden näkeminen voimavarana : kokemuksia Utrechtin kansainvälisestä koulusta

2021

Monikielisyys on nykyisin arkipäivää monissa kouluissa.

The S … Hal and Se … Hal chalcogen bonding in a series of thiourea, selenourea and their derivatives

2021

The chalcogen bonding (ChB) in a series of thiourea, selenourea and their derivatives has been investigated in the present paper. Thus, selenourea and dimethylselenourea undergo dimerization and trimerization processes in the presence of various halogen species (1–5). Selenourea and dimethylselenourea form trimers 3–4 in the presence of lighter halogens (chlorine and bromine) through Se⋯Se chalcogen bonding. When moving to heavier halogen (iodine), the dimers 1–2 are formed. Thiourea and its derivatives also tend to make very strong S⋯S bonds and form dimers in the case of lighter halogens chlorine and bromine (compounds 6–7). However, the monomers separated by the iodine species are formed…

Atlas of the Baltic languages: plant names of Slavonic origin

2015

Atlas of the Baltic Languages: Plant Names of Slavonic Origin The article investigates Slavonic-derived plant names in dialects of the two surviving Baltic languages – Latvian and Lithuanian. Historically, these Slavonisms were originally adopted by small-scale regional dialects, which are now disappearing. In 2009, a pilot study for the Atlas of the Baltic Languages was published. It comprised 12 geo-linguistic maps with Latvian, Lithuanian and English commentaries. 2012 saw the publication, in CD format, of the Atlas ’s first volume: Lexis 1: Flora . The material analysed concerns names for: (1) wild plants, e.g., cornflower, nettle, waybread, milfoil, dandelion, plantain; (2) cultivated …
