The role of fire within Neolithic collective burials: Spatial analyses of cremains from the site of La Truie Pendue, France

2016

International audience; The use of collective graves is one of the main features of the western European Late Neolithic. A single gravesite received the successive deposition of dozens or sometimes hundreds of individuals. While cremations or even full-fired inhumation layers are often found within these funerary deposits, the actual role of fire is still poorly understood. Recently discovered within the important archaeological complex of Passy (Yonne, France), the burned collective grave of La Truie-Pendue provides an outstanding case study to examine the use of fire within Neolithic funerary rites. In this study, we develop a new contextual approach to bone alterations in order to recons…

Multidisciplinary learning at the University scientific museums: the Bunsen burner

2017

We report on a laboratory activity carried out together with secondary school (high-school) students, with the aim of increasing their interest toward historical scientific instruments and stimulate their approach to scientific knowledge. To this purpose, we propose a hands-on activity that can be fruitfully performed at the University scientific museums. We organized a one-week summer stage at the Historical Collection of Physics Instruments and at the Museum of Chemistry of the University of Palermo. A group of selected students attended it, under the tutoring of university researchers. They were showed some Bunsen burners belonging to the collections, how they are restored, how they work…

The experience of no experience Elevator UX and the role of unconscious experience

2013

Elevators are designed to facilitate the smooth and efficient transportation of people from one architectural floor to the next. If they work well, people should not think about the journey at all. Instead, their concentration should remain focused on the activity they were engaged in before entering the elevator usage interaction. In other words, if the design works properly, people should not consciously experience elevator interaction. This paper presents the issue of studying no (conscious) user experience. It takes a theoretical perspective to explain aspects of consciousness and embodiment. While most studies on user experience focus on remarkable and affective interaction experiences…

Latvijas teritorijā sastopamās Q-drudža ierosinātājas baktērijas Coxiella burnetii genotipu noteikšana slaucamo govju saimniecībās

2020

Coxiella burnetii ir obligāta intracelulāra Coxiellaceae dzimtas baktērija, kas spēj izraisīt Q drudža slimību. Izplatīta visā pasaulē, iekļauta obligāti ziņojamo slimību sarakstā 25 Eiropas Savienības dalībvalstīs. Darba mērķis ir noteikt Latvijas teritorijā sastopamās Q-drudža ierosinātājas baktērijas Coxiella burnetii genotipus un to izplatību slaucamo govju saimniecībās. Maģistra darbs izstrādāts projekta “Zoonozes Q-drudža ietekme uz slaucamo govju reprodukciju un risinājumi slimības sastopamības samazināšanai un dzīvnieku ilgtspējīgai izmantošanai” ietvaros, Pārtikas drošības, dzīvnieku veselības un vides zinātniskajā institūtā “BIOR”. Darba ietvaros veikts visaptverošs projektā iegūt…
