Finnish and German student teachers’ motivations for choosing teaching as a career : The first application of the FIT-Choice scale in Finland

This study introduces and validates the Finnish version of the FIT-Choice scale and uses the scale to explore Finnish undergraduate students' motivations for choosing teaching as a career as well as their perceptions of teaching as a profession in comparison to German student teachers. The results replicated the FIT-Choice structure both in Finland and Germany. Sample comparisons revealed that motivations for teaching and perceptions of the teaching profession reflected both differences and similarities between Finland and Germany. Koulutukseen hakeutuminen on yksilölle ja yhteiskunnalle merkittävä asia. Ihmiselle on merkityksellistä löytää ala, jossa opiskeleminen on kiinnostavaa. Tutkielmassa tarkastellaan Jyväskylän yliopiston (JY) Informaatioteknologian tiedekunnan Tietotekniikan laitoksen (TTL) opiskelijarekrytointia ja sen kohdentamista. Tavoitteena on selvittää kirjallisuuskatsauksen ja tapaustutkimuksen keinoin, mitkä tekijät yhdistävät potentiaalisia hakijoita. Tapaustutkimuksessa hyödynnetään TTL:n valintakokeeseen osallistuneilta kerättyä kyselyaineistoa. Kyselyllä selvitettiin hakijoiden syitä hakea tutkinto-opiskelijaksi JY:n TTL:lle. Tutkielman keskeinen tulos on, että tietotekniikkaa opiskelemaan hakevat ovat lähtökohtaisesti kiinnostuneita matematiikasta ja teknologiasta. Any organism has a limited amount of resources, which have to be partitioned among several activities such as maintenance, growth and reproduction. Reproductive effort is defined as the proportion of parental resources devoted to fecundity and offspring survival. The extent of reproductive effort is restricted by trade-offs that cancel out the advantages of increasing investment in reproduction. This thesis presents an investigation into the determinants of reproductive effort in the bank vole, Clethrionomys glareolus, focusing mainly on two major life history trade-offs i.e. cost of reproduction and trade-off between offspring number and quality.
