Ultrasonic nebulization inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry method for wine analysis

2020

Abstract A methodology was developed to determine mineral elements in wines using Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry combined with ultrasonic nebulization. The concentration of 36 elements (Al, B, Ba, Bi, Ca, Cd, Ce, Co, Cr, Dy, Er, Eu, Fe, Gd, K, La, Lu, Mg, Mn, Mo, Na, Nd, Ni, Pb, Pr, Sb, Sc, Sm, Sr, Tb, Ti, Tm, V, Y, Yb, and Zn) was determined in 59 wine samples and used to distinguish between Brazilian and Spanish wines. The best conditions for the plasma were selected using a two-level factorial design: radiofrequency power 1500 W; plasma gas flow rate 15 L min−1; auxiliary 0.70 L min−1; and nebulizer 0.40 L min−1. Incised valleys and tidal seaways: the example of the Miocene Uzès-Castillon basin, SE France.

2012

Abstract The sedimentology and stratigraphy of the Miocene deposits of the Uzès-Castillon basin are revisited. This basin, located in SE France at the junction between the perialpine foreland basin and the W Mediterranean margin, sits in a syncline that formed during the latest Cretaceous Pyrenean tectonic phase. It records the succession of shallow-water mixed siliciclastic to dominantly bioclastic carbonates that alternate with shelf marls. The clastic carbonates were accumulated as a stack of subtidal dunes and bars that were formed by tidal currents channelized in a seaway following the syncline axis. The marls indicate deposition in more protected and locally deeper waters, as interflu…

Soil erosion in sloping vineyards assessed by using botanical indicators and sediment collectors in the Ruwer-Mosel valley

2016

Steep slopes, erodible soils, rill and ephemeral gullies, compaction due to wheel. traffic and human trampling are common features in vineyards around the world and result in high soil erosion rates. However, little is known about seasonal and spatial variations of soil erosion rates due to factors such as the impact of the vine plantation, harvest, and tillage on the soil redistribution over the long-term temporal scale. The goal of this study is to assess long-term soil erosion rates and the impact of management on sediment and runoff yield by means of Gerlach troughs and a topographical approach based on botanic benchmarks in two paired vineyards with different ages (3 and 35 years) loca…

The Late Ordovician glacial sedimentary system of the North Gondwana platform.

2009

International audience; The Late Ordovician (Hirnantian) glaciation is examined through the North Gondwana record. This domain extended from southern high palaeo-latitudes (southeastern Mauritania, Niger) to northern lower palaeo-latitudes (Morocco, Turkey) and covered a more than 4000 km-wide section perpendicular to ice-flow lines. A major mid-Hirnantian deglaciation event subdividing the Hirnantian glaciation in two first-order cycles is recognised. As best illustrated by the glacial record in western Libya, each cycle comprises 2-3 glacial phases separated by ice-front retreats several hundreds kilometres to the south. From ice-proximal to ice-distal regions, the number of glacial surfa…

Plant communities of the Czerwona Woda River Valley (Stołowe Mountains National Park)

2018

Abstract The Czerwona Woda River is the main watercourse in the Stołowe Mountains National Park and drains the major part of the Stołowe Mts. It was regulated in the past, but its channel has been spontaneously naturalised. Now, managed spruce forests grow along almost the entire length of this small mountain stream. The aims of the present study were to investigate diversity of plant communities connected with the Czerwona Woda stream and to prepare detailed vegetation maps. The results obtained can potentially be a reference for future restoration projects implemented in the Stołowe Mountains National Park. As a result of vegetation mapping, there were distinguished 20 plant communities r…

The anisotropy of personal space.

2019

Violations of personal space are associated with discomfort. However, the exact function linking the magnitude of discomfort to interpersonal distance has not yet been specified. In this study, we explore whether interpersonal distance and discomfort are isotropic with respect to uncomfortably far or close distances. We also extend previous findings with regard to intrusions into personal space as well as maintenance of distances outside of personal space. We presented subjects with 15 interpersonal distances ranging from 40 to 250 cm and obtained verbal and joystick-based ratings of discomfort. Whereas discomfort rose immediately when personal space was entered, the gradient was less steep…

Reliability of the representation of a distribution: a case-study on Middle Bronze Age metal finds in the Seine valley

2013

International audience; Controlling the uncertainties and the documentary lacks of an archaeological corpus should be the priority to interpret correctly the data distribution. The conception of a reliability map in order to estimate the quality of the inventory, the creation of a representation map so as to highlight the over- and under-representations and finally their combination, the confidence map, are efficient tools to spot out the zones concerning which there is a risk for a defective interpretation. We propose here, an application on a case-study of Middle Bronze Age metal hoards and isolated finds, for which the only really determining factor is the possibility for discoveries sin…

Observation of topological gravity-capillary waves in a water wave crystal

2019

The discovery of topological phases of matter, initially driven by theoretical advances in quantum condensed matter physics, has been recently extended to classical wave systems, reaching out to a wealth of novel potential applications in signal manipulation and energy concentration. Despite the fact that many realistic wave media (metals at optical frequencies, polymers at ultrasonic frequencies) are inherently dispersive, topological wave transport in photonic and phononic crystals has so far been limited to ideal situations and proof-of-concept experiments involving dispersionless media. Here, we report the first experimental demonstration of topological edge states in a classical water …
