Zur Vaterschaftsplausibilität im HLA-System. Untersuchungen unter Benutzung verschiedener Haplotypfrequenztabellen
1981
Serious discrepancies occur, when different haplotype frequency tables are used for calculating the “EM value” (\(\left( {\lg \frac{Y}{X} + 10} \right)\)) of a mother-child-putative-father-combination (MCPFC). These are due to the different frequencies of low frequent haplotypes. Since the correlation between the haplotype frequencies of two different tables for haplotypes lower than 3.5 X 10-3 may even be negative, it seems justified to calculate the EM values with the minimum haplotype frequency of 1X 10-3. For three haplotype frequency tables (with a respectively adapted number of antigens) the EM value was calculated for all MCPFC of all “full house” cases in which the genotype of fathe…
Polymorphism of Alcohol Dehydrogenase Genes in Alcoholic and Nonalcoholic Individuals from Valencia (Spain)
2004
Polymorphisms in the two variable ADH loci (ADH2 and ADH3) were analyzed in two groups (alcoholics and nonalcoholics) from a Spanish population. The frequencies were similar to those reported for other Causcasian groups. ADH2-1 and ADH3-1 genotypes were more frequent in alcoholics than in nonalcoholics, but the differences were not significant.
The role of telomeres in predicting individual radiosensitivity of patients with cancer in the era of personalized radiotherapy.
2014
Radiotherapy plays a key role in cancer treatments, but tumor cell death differs from one tumor to another. The response of patients to radiotherapy varies considerably and adverse side effects are difficult to prevent. The mechanisms involved in the heterogeneity of this response are not well understood. In order to enhance the efficacy and safety of radiotherapy, it is important to identify subpopulations most at risk of developing a late adverse response to radiotherapy. Telomeres are composed of multiple repeats of a unique sequence of nucleotides forming a TTAGGG pattern. They protect chromosomes from end-to-end fusion and maintain genomic stability. Telomeres have been shown to be ext…
Estrogenic effects of food wrap packaging xenoestrogens and flavonoids in female Wistar rats : a comparative study
2003
International audience; The objective of this study was to compare the estrogenicity of xenoestrogens found in food wrap packaging and phytoestrogen flavonoids. Uterotrophic and vaginal cornification assays were performed on immature and ovariectomized rats. Genistein, bisphenol F, and octylphenol were identified as estrogenic only in immature rats. Using vaginal cornification as a more specific estrogenic parameter, all tested compounds except tangeretin were active in immature rats. While apigenin and kaempferol appeared to have low estrogenic activity, they potentialized the uterotrophic effect of 17β-estradiol in immature rats. These data showed that (i) phytoestrogens like genistein ca…
MHC class II genes influence the susceptibility to chronic active hepatitis C
1997
Chronic hepatitis C develops in more than 70% of hepatitis C virus infected subjects. Viral factors influence the disease course, but little is known about the importance of host factors.Frequencies of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I and class II antigens were analyzed in two groups of patients with chronic hepatitis C virus infection and in control subjects. MHC class I typing was done by standard microlymphocytotoxicity assays. DRB1 and DQA1 genotyping was done by PCR based typing methods.DRB1*0301 was found in 26 of 75 patients with chronic hepatitis C virus infection (34.7%) and in 12 of 101 control subjects (11.9%) (relative risk 3.9; p0.001). Homozygosity for this allel…
A comparison theorem for the first Dirichlet eigenvalue of a domain in a Kaehler submanifold
1994
AbstractWe give a sharp lower bound for the first eigenvalue of the Dirichlet eigenvalue problem on a domain of a complex submanifold of a Kaehler manifold with curvature bounded from above. The bound on the first eigenvalue is given as a function of the extrinsic outer radius and the bounds on the curvature, and it is attained only on geodesic spheres of a space of constant holomorphic sectional curvature embedded in the Kaehler manifold as a totally geodesic submanifold.
The EU'S Explicit and Implicit Heritage Politics
2014
During the past couple of decades, heritage has become topical in a new way in Europe as the concept has been utilized for political purposes in the EU cultural policy. The EU currently administrates or supports three initiatives – the European Heritage Days, the European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage, and the European Heritage Label – that address the fostering of the transnational European cultural heritage. The article discusses the explicit and implicit heritage politics included in these initiatives. In order to understand the constructive and generative nature of the EU heritage politics, it is approached in the article as a discursive meaning-making process consisting of several …
Rubbish theory: the creation and destruction of value
2018
Already in my family’s possession for two generations, I am driving a – meanwhile quite old – VW Polo Mk II. When the car was manufactured in the early 1980s it was a special model, built for job s...
Culinary tourism experiences in agri-tourism destinations and sustainable consumption-Understanding Italian tourists' motivations
2019
Culinary tourism represents an emerging component of the tourism industry and encompasses all the traditional values associated with the new trends in tourism: respect for culture and tradition, authenticity and sustainability. Italy is known worldwide for the richness and variety of its gastronomy, and agri-tourism represents one of the most important places where culinary tourists can experience local food and beverages.
