Nonlinear Eigenvalue Problems of Schrödinger Type Admitting Eigenfunctions with Given Spectral Characteristics

The following work is an extension of our recent paper [10]. We still deal with nonlinear eigenvalue problems of the form in a real Hilbert space ℋ with a semi-bounded self-adjoint operator A0, while for every y from a dense subspace X of ℋ, B(y ) is a symmetric operator. The left-hand side is assumed to be related to a certain auxiliary functional ψ, and the associated linear problems are supposed to have non-empty discrete spectrum (y ∈ X). With Schauder's fixpoint principle we establish an existence theorem for solutions of two simultaneous nonlinear operator equations of the formL iu=Miu, i=1,2, Li linear,M i continous. Weyl's Theorems and Extensions of Bounded Linear Operators

A bounded operator $T\in L(X)$, $X$ a Banach space, is said to satisfy Weyl's theorem if the set of all spectral points that do not belong to the Weyl spectrum coincides with the set of all isolated points of the spectrum which are eigenvalues and having finite multiplicity. In this article we give sufficient conditions for which Weyl's theorem for an extension $\overline T$ of $T$ (respectively, for $T$) entails that Weyl's theorem holds for $T$ (respectively, for $\overline T$).

Morse-Smale index theorems for elliptic boundary deformation problems.

AbstractMorse-type index theorems for self-adjoint elliptic second order boundary value problems arise as the second variation of an energy functional corresponding to some variational problem. The celebrated Morse index theorem establishes a precise relation between the Morse index of a geodesic (as critical point of the geodesic action functional) and the number of conjugate points along the curve. Generalized Bogoliubov transformations versus D-pseudo-bosons

We demonstrate that not all generalized Bogoliubov transformations lead to D -pseudo-bosons and prove that a correspondence between the two can only be achieved with the imposition of specific constraints on the parameters defining the transformation. For certain values of the parameters, we find that the norms of the vectors in sets of eigenvectors of two related apparently non-selfadjoint number-like operators possess different types of asymptotic behavior. We use this result to deduce further that they constitute bases for a Hilbert space, albeit neither of them can form a Riesz base. When the constraints are relaxed, they cease to be Hilbert space bases but remain D -quasibases.

The deformation multiplicity of a map germ with respect to a Boardman symbol

We define the deformation multiplicity of a map germ f: (Cn, 0) → (Cp, 0) with respect to a Boardman symbol i of codimension less than or equal to n and establish a geometrical interpretation of this number in terms of the set of Σi points that appear in a generic deformation of f. Moreover, this number is equal to the algebraic multiplicity of f with respect to i when the corresponding associated ring is Cohen-Macaulay. Finally, we study how algebraic multiplicity behaves with weighted homogeneous map germs.

Korn inequality on irregular domains

Abstract In this paper, we study the weighted Korn inequality on some irregular domains, e.g., s-John domains and domains satisfying quasihyperbolic boundary conditions. Examples regarding sharpness of the Korn inequality on these domains are presented. Moreover, we show that Korn inequalities imply certain Poincare inequality.

Singular levels and topological invariants of Morse Bott integrable systems on surfaces

Abstract We classify up to homeomorphisms closed curves and eights of saddle points on orientable closed surfaces. This classification is applied to Morse Bott foliations and Morse Bott integrable systems allowing us to define a complete invariant. We state also a realization Theorem based in two transformations and one generator (the foliation of the sphere with two centers).

On the interior regularity of weak solutions to the 2-D incompressible Euler equations

We study whether some of the non-physical properties observed for weak solutions of the incompressible Euler equations can be ruled out by studying the vorticity formulation. Our main contribution is in developing an interior regularity method in the spirit of De Giorgi–Nash–Moser, showing that local weak solutions are exponentially integrable, uniformly in time, under minimal integrability conditions. This is a Serrin-type interior regularity result $$\begin{aligned} u \in L_\mathrm{loc}^{2+\varepsilon }(\Omega _T) \implies \mathrm{local\ regularity} \end{aligned}$$ for weak solutions in the energy space $$L_t^\infty L_x^2$$ , satisfying appropriate vorticity estimates.
