Existence Results for Periodic Boundary Value Problems with a Convenction Term
2020
By using an abstract coincidence point theorem for sequentially weakly continuous maps the existence of at least one positive solution is obtained for a periodic second order boundary value problem with a reaction term involving the derivative \(u'\) of the solution u: the so called convention term. As a consequence of the main result also the existence of at least one positive solution is obtained for a parameter-depending problem.
A decomposition of Denjoy-Khintchine-Pettis and Henstock-Kurzweil-Pettis integrable multifunctions
2010
We proved in one of our earlier papers that in case of separable Banach space valued multifunctions each Henstock-Kurzweil-Pettis integrable multifunction can be represented as a sum of one of its Henstock-Kurzweil-Pettis integrable selector and a Pettis integrable multifunction. Now, we prove that the same result can be achieved in case of an arbitrary Banach space. Moreover we show that an analogous result holds true also for the Denjoy-Khintchine-Pettis integrable multifunctions. Applying the representation theorem we describe the multipliers of HKP and DKP integrable functions. Then we use this description to obtain an operator characterization of HKP and DKP integrability.
Ordinary (p_1,...,p_m)-Laplacian system with mixed boundary value
2016
In this paper we prove the existence of multiple weak solutions for an ordinary mixed boundary value system with (p_1,...,p_m)-Laplacian by using recent results of critical points.
Distribution, function and predictive value of tumor-infiltrating γδ T lymphocytes
2013
Although γδ T cells are known to exert both tumor-preventing and tumor-promoting activity, there is still little information on the functional characteristics and clinical significance of γδ T cells isolated from the tumor site. In a recent study, we have investigated the distribution of different γδ T-cell populations in melanoma and their impact on disease outcome.
Diagnostic, Prognostic and Therapeutic Value of Gene Signatures
2012
Gene expression studies have revealed diagnostic profiles and upregulation of specific pathways in many solid tumors. Some gene-expression signatures are already used as predictors of relapse in early breast cancer patients. The explosion of new information in gene expression profiling could potentially lead to the development of tailored treatments in many solid tumors. In addition, many studies are ongoing to validate these signatures also in predicting response to hormonal, chemotherapeutic, and targeted agents in breast cancer as well as in other tumors. This book has been carried out with the aim of providing readers a useful and comprehensive resource about the range of applications o…
Techniques to evaluate erythrocyte deformability in diabetes mellitus
2005
Using several rheological techniques, we examined the erythrocyte deformability in different groups of diabetic subjects. The macrorheological techniques used for this evaluation were respectively whole-blood filtration, filtration of erythrocyte suspensions, polyviscosimetry and diffractometry. Whole-blood filterability, at a negative pressure of 20 cm water, was decreased in type 2 diabetics; no difference was evident at a negative pressure of 10 cm water. The filtration of erythrocyte suspensions at low haematocrit (5%) did not show differences between normal and diabetic subjects. The polyviscosimetry, which explores the filterability of erythrocyte suspensions at high haematocrit (80%)…

The sustainability of the Sicilian seafood chain: Innovation, organizational models and value chain
2015
fisheries sector, organizational change, value chain, innovation To what extent and how the acquisition of new innovative processes can affect the structure and roles of the actors within the seafood sector chain? What are the possible effects along the entire value chain and on the distribution of this value to those who have contributed to generate it ? The proposed analysis aims to clarify some aspects of these complex issues whose implications may affect the future and the economic sustainability of the fisheries sector in Sicily. The related economic literature investigates the role of organizational change management on improving the performance of companies engaged in the launch of i…
Understanding the Microfoundations of Entrepreneurial Ecosystems: Toward a Value-Based Method and Theory
2023
Despite the progress made by scholars, empirically investigating entrepreneurial ecosystems (EEs) remains problematic because of the inherent complexities and nonlinearities of interactions among EE actors. The research to date has shown a tendency to focus on macrolevel ecosystem dynamics while neglecting the microfoundations of EEs. We contend that this negligence is due to a lack of appropriate methodologies that can capture EE microfoundations through a systemic value-based perspective. To fill this gap, in this article, we propose a novel methodological approach, the value system method, which enables framing EEs through critical causal interdependences between key actors’ business mod…
