The article presents the issue of trust in law as one of the fundamental values of a rule-of-law state. The analysis of the court rulings conducted in the first part of the article indicates the principle of a democratic rule-of-law state as a basis for distinguishing substantive and formal components of trust in law. Further considerations of the article focus on showing the change of law, in particular its transition from repressive law to responsive law, and the possible effects of this change on the paradigm of trust established in a democratic ruleof-law state. The growing importance of education in the life of modern society causes that we more often pay attention to the aspect of educating teachers and the axiological issues connected with that. What is more, the need of re-reading and re-searchingfor universal values, which are strongly ingrained in the humanistic tradition, is perceived. Fixed point theorems for α-set-valued quasi-contractions in b-metric spaces

Recently, Samet et al. [B. Samet, C. Vetro and P. Vetro, Fixed point theorems for alpha-psi-contractive type mappings, Nonlinear Anal., 75 (2012), 2154-2165] introduced the notion of alpha-psi-contractive mappings and established some fixed point results in the setting of complete metric spaces. In this paper, we introduce the notions of alpha-set-valued contraction and alpha-set-valued quasi-contraction and we give some fixed point theorems for such classes of mappings in the setting of b-metric spaces and ordered b-metric spaces. The presented theorems extend, unify and generalize several well-known comparable results in the existing literature.

Despite empirical evidence that women’s presence in management positions is a source of value co-creation for firms, these positions are still male-dominated. Some evidence from experimental economics suggests that one reason for this imbalance is that women shy away from competition. However, most of these studies have focused on competition systems that pit individuals against each other. We present an economic laboratory experiment that compares competition against others with competition against a set target. Triterpenoid saponins from Polycarpaea corymbosa Lamk. var. eriantha Hochst.

Abstract Four triterpenoid saponins (1–4) were isolated from Polycarpaea corymbosa Lamk. var. eriantha Hochst along with the known apoanagallosaponin IV (5). Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic data analysis. Among the compounds 1, 3–5 which were evaluated for their cytotoxicity against three tumor cell lines (SW480, DU145 and EMT6), compound 1 exhibited cytotoxicity with IC50 values ranging from 4.61 to 22.61 μM, which was greater than that of etoposide. Compound 2 was tested only against SW480 and a cardiomyoblast cell line (H9c2), and was inactive.
Economic assessment of sicilian loquat orchards

The majority of Italian production of loquat (Eriobotrya japonica) derives from the Palermo province, along the northern Sicilian coast. However, this area is characterized by family orchards, traditional cultural techniques, and inadequate commercial organization. These appear to affect negatively the production costs and reduce the farmersâ income, decreasing the competitiveness of Sicilian loquat orchards.
