Nonperturbative comparison of QCD effective charges

2009

We study the non-perturbative behavior of two versions of the QCD effective charge, one obtained from the pinch technique gluon self-energy, and one from the ghost-gluon vertex. Despite their distinct theoretical origin, due to a fundamental identity relating various of the ingredients appearing in their respective definitions, the two effective charges are almost identical in the entire range of physical momenta, and coincide exactly in the deep infrared, where they freeze at a common finite value. Specifically, the dressing function of the ghost propagator is related to the two form factors in the Lorentz decomposition of a certain Green's function, appearing in a variety of field-theoret…

Noncritical quadrature squeezing in two-transverse-mode optical parametric oscillators

2010

In this article we explore the quantum properties of a degenerate optical parametric oscillator when it is tuned to the first family of transverse modes at the down-converted frequency. Recently we found [C. Navarrete-Benlloch et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 100, 203601 (2008)] that above threshold a TEM${}_{10}$ mode following a random rotation in the transverse plane emerges in this system (we denote it as the bright mode), breaking thus its rotational invariance. Then, owing to the mode orientation being undetermined, we showed that the phase quadrature of the transverse mode orthogonal to this one (denoted as the dark mode) is perfectly squeezed at any pump level and without an increase in the…

Semileptonic decays of the lightJP=1/2+ground state baryon octet

2008

We calculate the semileptonic baryon octet-octet transition form factors using a manifestly Lorentz covariant quark model approach based on the factorization of the contribution of valence quarks and chiral effects. We perform a detailed analysis of SU(3)-breaking corrections to the hyperon semileptonic decay form factors. We present complete results on decay rates and asymmetry parameters including lepton mass effects for the rates.

Tridimensional invariant correlation based on phase-coded and sine-coded range images

1998

New methods for recognition of range images based on correlation are presented. The techniques allow the detection of a range image of a tridimensional pattern whatever its position along the x, y and z axes. The first method uses the phase-coding of the range image in order to obtain invariance along the z-axis in the correlation process. The second method uses the sine-coding of the range image in order to obtain better discrimination than that obtained with phase-coding. The third method is a hybrid one that makes use of sine-coding for the input scene and phase-coding for the reference image, so both the full translation invariance and high discrimination abilities are obtained. Dimensional Regularization. Ultraviolet and Infrared Divergences

2015

The cornerstone of Quantum Field Theory is renormalization. We shall speak more about in the next chapters. Before, it is necessary to discuss the method. The best and most simple is, of course, dimensional regularization (doesn’t break the symmetries, doesn’t violate the Ward Identities, preserves Lorentz invariance, etc.). When explained consistently, it becomes very simple and clear. Here, we shortly discuss ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) divergences with a few examples. However, in Chap. 8, we shall extensively treat one-loop two and three-point functions and analyse many more examples of IR and UV divergences.

Fractals and multifractals in the description of the cosmic structure

1990

Abstract The concepts of fractals and multifractals are applied to describe the large scale galaxy distribution. It is shown how the Universe fits the fractal geometry on small scales (several Mpc), but that there exists some cut-off where the scale invariance is broken. Even in the scaling region the cosmic structure is not a simple fractal, and the task is to introduce more complex and complete clustering descriptors. At this stage, the concept of multifractals appears to be more efficient to describe the texture of the Universe.

Limit on Lorentz-Invariance- and CPT-Violating Neutron Spin Interactions Using a $^3$He-$^{129}$Xe Comagnetometer

2016

We performed a search for a Lorentz-invariance- and CPT-violating coupling of the $^3$He and $^{129}$Xe nuclear spins to posited background fields. Our experimental approach is to measure the free precession of nuclear spin polarized $^3$He and $^{129}$Xe atoms using SQUID detectors. As the laboratory reference frame rotates with respect to distant stars, we look for a sidereal modulation of the Larmor frequencies of the co-located spin samples. As a result we obtain an upper limit on the equatorial component of the background field $\tilde{b}^n_{\bot}< 8.4 \cdot 10^{-34}$ GeV (68\% C.L.). Furthermore, this technique was modified to search for an electric dipole moment (EDM) of $^{129}$X…

New Limit on Lorentz-Invariance- andCPT-Violating Neutron Spin Interactions Using a Free-Spin-PrecessionHe3-Xe129Comagnetometer

2014

We report on the search for a $CPT$- and Lorentz-invariance-violating coupling of the $^{3}\mathrm{He}$ and $^{129}\mathrm{Xe}$ nuclear spins (each largely determined by a valence neutron) to posited background tensor fields that permeate the Universe. Our experimental approach is to measure the free precession of nuclear spin polarized $^{3}\mathrm{He}$ and $^{129}\mathrm{Xe}$ atoms in a homogeneous magnetic guiding field of about 400 nT using ${\mathrm{LT}}_{C}$ SQUIDs as low-noise magnetic flux detectors. As the laboratory reference frame rotates with respect to distant stars, we look for a sidereal modulation of the Larmor frequencies of the colocated spin samples. As a result we obtain…
