Workplace violence among healthcare workers, a multicenter study in Italy
2022
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to assess the prevalence and determinants of workplace violence and the sociodemographic risk factors associated. Study design: This was a multicenter cross-sectional study. Methods: The study was performed using self-compiled Italian version of the World Health Organization's questionnaire on workplace violence online by filling in a Google form. The survey was opened from May 2018 to March 2020 and lasted 5-10 min. Results: The sample consists of 3659 healthcare workers, of which 2525 (69%) are females, 1446 (39.5%) are nurses, and 2029 (55.5%) are health workers from northern Italy. The most frequent age group of the sample is 50-54 years (16.7%).…
Biometric Measures for Interactive Advertising Research
2011
ABSTRACTModern marketers seek new research paradigms to explore preconscious, nonverbal stages of consumer behavior, often turning to brain science because some mental processes, particularly those underlying conscious awareness, may be better understood by analyzing neurophysiological reactions. A new discipline, consumer neuroscience, thus examines the brain and its functioning in a marketing context. This article demonstrates how consumer neuroscience can contribute to existing marketing knowledge, with a focus on two methods: electroencephalography (EEG) and eye-tracking. In interactive environments, it is ideal to administer brain wave analyses in parallel with observations of eye move…
Do trained assessors generalize their knowledge to new stimuli?
2005
Previous work showed that trained assessors are better at discriminating and describing familiar chemico-sensorial stimuli than novices. In this study, we evaluated whether this superiority holds true for new stimuli. We first trained a group of subjects to characterize beer flavors over a two year period. After training was accomplished, we compared the performance of these trained assessors with the performance of novice subjects for discrimination and matching tasks. The tasks were performed using both well-learned and new beers. Trained assessors outperformed novices in the discrimination task for learned beers but not for new beers. But on the matching task, trained assessors outperfor…
On the influence of orientation upon the mechanical behavior of oakwood in a general state of stress
1995
Influence of orientation upon the mechanical behavior of oakwood has been studied. The approach within anisotropic medias mechanics supposes oakwood orthotropic with three orthogonal symmetry axes considered to be the privileged directions that occur during the growth of oaktree. Experimental tests consisted in compression tests under confining pressure realized on cylindric samples of oakwood chopped in 18 privileged directions. Although well known in solid mechanics, our approach is original in mechanics and rheology of wood. The obtained results disclosed an influence of the confining pressure upon the mechanical behavior of oakwood and its anisotropy including different types of anisotr…

Strength and strain capacities of concrete compression members reinforced with FRP
2003
The analytical compressive behavior of concrete members reinforced with fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) was examined. The variation in the shape of the transverse cross-section was analyzed. The bearing capacity and the increase in the maximum strain for members having a cross-section which was circular, square or square with round corners reinforced with FRP were determined. The proposed analytical model allows one to evaluate the confining pressure in ultimate conditions considering the effective confined cross-section and also allows one to determine the ultimate strain corresponding to FRP failure through a simplified energetic approach. Analytical results are then compared to experiment…
