Virtual Resource Allocation for Wireless Virtualized Heterogeneous Network with Hybrid Energy Supply

2022

In this work, two novel virtual user association and resource allocation algorithms are introduced for a wireless virtualized heterogeneous network with hybrid energy supply. In the considered system, macro base stations (MBSs) are supplied by the grid power and small base stations (SBSs) have the energy harvesting capability in addition to the grid power supplement. Multiple infrastructure providers (InPs) own the physical resources, i.e., BSs and radio resources. The Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) are able to recent these resources from the InPs and operate the virtualized resources for providing services to different users. In particular, aiming to maximize the overall utility …

Multilabel segmentation of cancer cell culture on vascular structures with deep neural networks

2020

New increasingly complex in vitro cancer cell models are being developed. These new models seem to represent the cell behavior in vivo more accurately and have better physiological relevance than prior models. An efficient testing method for selecting the most optimal drug treatment does not exist to date. One proposed solution to the problem involves isolation of cancer cells from the patients' cancer tissue, after which they are exposed to potential drugs alone or in combinations to find the most optimal medication. To achieve this goal, methods that can efficiently quantify and analyze changes in tested cell are needed. Our study aimed to detect and segment cells and structures from canc…

Hyperspectral imaging reveals spectral differences and can distinguish malignant melanoma from pigmented basal cell carcinomas : A pilot study

2021

Pigmented basal cell carcinomas can be difficult to distinguish from melanocytic tumours. Hyperspectral imaging is a non-invasive imaging technique that measures the reflectance spectra of skin in vivo. The aim of this prospective pilot study was to use a convolutional neural network classifier in hyperspectral images for differential diagnosis between pigmented basal cell carcinomas and melanoma. A total of 26 pigmented lesions (10 pigmented basal cell carcinomas, 12 melanomas in situ, 4 invasive melanomas) were imaged with hyperspectral imaging and excised for histopathological diagnosis. For 2-class classifier (melanocytic tumours vs pigmented basal cell carcinomas) using the majority of…

Elaboration of NMT and GSM standards : from idea to market

2002

The focus of this study is on elaboration of NMT (Nordic Mobile Telephone) and GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) standards. It seeks to understand the standard-making process from a system's philosophy to market entry. The specific objectives of the study are 1) to reconstruct the original ideas of innovation, 2) to reconstruct standardization processes of NMT and GSM systems, 3) to reconstruct interplay and impact of key players during standardization process, and 4) to explain success of NMT and GSM standards. Analyzing processes of two successful mobile communication standard-making aims to reveal what were the specific Nordic standardization practices and principles, and what…

Blackfly Larvae (Simulium spp.) Can Intensify Methylmercury Biomagnification in Boreal Food Webs

2020

AbstractGlobal pollution of mercury (Hg) threatens ecosystem and human health. We measured total Hg (THg) and monomethylmercury (MMHg) concentrations in filter-feeding blackfly (Simulium spp.) larvae in the inflows and the outflows of six boreal lakes with no Hg point source pollution. THg in the larvae ranged from 0.03 to 0.31 mg kg−1 dw and MMHg between 0.02 and 0.25 mg kg−1 dw. The proportion of MMHg in the larvae was 74 ± 0.16% and ranged from 43 to 98% of THg, the highest proportions being comparable to those typically found in aquatic predatory insects and fish. We compared the larvae MMHg concentrations to river water quality, catchment land-use, and to size-adjusted lake pike THg da…

Continuous Analysis of Running Mechanics by Means of an Integrated INS/GPS Device

2019

This paper describes a single body-mounted sensor that integrates accelerometers, gyroscopes, compasses, barometers, a GPS receiver, and a methodology to process the data for biomechanical studies. The sensor and its data processing system can accurately compute the speed, acceleration, angular velocity, and angular orientation at an output rate of 400 Hz and has the ability to collect large volumes of ecologically-valid data. The system also segments steps and computes metrics for each step. We analyzed the sensitivity of these metrics to changing the start time of the gait cycle. Along with traditional metrics, such as cadence, speed, step length, and vertical oscillation, this system est…

Esineiden internetin hyödyt yksilölle turvallisuuden näkökulmasta

2017

Tässä tutkielmassa esitellään esineiden internetin hyötyjä yksilölle turvallisuuden näkökulmasta. Aihe on tärkeä, sillä esineiden internet on nopeasti ja jatkuvalla tahdilla kasvava ilmiö, joka tulee väistämättä vaikuttamaan huomattavasti nykyiseen ja tulevaan yhteiskuntaan. Kehittyvien teknologioiden ansiosta lähitulevaisuudessa lähes jokainen esine voidaan yhdistää internetiin, mikä mahdollistaa valtavan potentiaalin esineiden internetin hyödyntämiselle. Tutkielmassa keskitytään esineiden internetin mahdollistamiin yksilön turvallisuushyötyihin. Tutkimuskysymyksenä on mitä eri turvallisuushyötyjä yksilö saa esineiden internetistä ja miten ne parantavat yksilön turvallisuutta. Tutkielmassa…
