Resisting Bodies: Power Crisis / Meaning Crisis in the Zombie Film from 1932 to Today
2011
Critics have repeatedly focused on the political subtexts of the living dead films of George A. Romero, revealing, notably, how they reflect specific social concerns. In order to determine what makes the zombie movie and the figure of the zombie so productive of political readings, this article examines, first, the classic zombie movies influenced by voodoo lore, then Romero’s initial living dead trilogy (1968-1985), and finally some of the most successful films released in the 2000s. Resorting to a post-structuralist framework including Althusser’s notions of state apparatuses, Foucault’s distinction between subjection and subjectification, and Butler’s analyses of subversive resignificati…
De novo production of six key grape aroma monoterpenes by a geraniol synthase-engineered S. cerevisiae wine strain
2015
[Background] Monoterpenes are important contributors to grape and wine aroma. Moreover, certain monoterpenes have been shown to display health benefits with antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anticancer or hypotensive properties amongst others. The aim of this study was to construct self-aromatizing wine yeasts to overproduce de novo these plant metabolites in wines.
Coffee increases state anxiety in males but not in females.
2003
Coffee, reproducing the conditions under which caffeine is normally ingested, containing 3, 75, 150 or 300 mg of caffeine was given to healthy male and female volunteers. 25-30 min after drinking the beverage, they completed the Spanish version of the state-trait anxiety inventory (STAI). The beverage increased state anxiety, in a dose-dependent manner, in males but not in females. This could be due to a lesser sensitivity of females to coffee.
Validez factorial de la adaptación al español del Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey
2002
Objective. To explore the factorial structure of a Spanish version of the “Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey” (MBI-GS). Material and Methods. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 1999 among 149 municipal policemen in Tenerife, Spain. A questionnaire was applied to collect data on Professional Efficacy, Cynicism, and Burnout. Data were analyzed using factorial analysis and principal components with Varimax rotation. Results. Four factors had eigenvalues greater than 1; Factor 1 gouped Professional Efficacy items, Factor II grouped three Cynicism items. Further analysis was conducted to limit extraction to three factors. The factorial solution replicated the distribution of items i…
Dimensions underlying frailty indicators in the Kihon Checklist.
2019
Aim Frailty has become a current topic of debate in recent years among researchers as a key concept of clinical care in old age. One of the scales developed for its measurement is the Kihon Checklist (KCL). However, the dimensionality of the KCL has not been tested yet, and therefore the aim of the present study was to validate its dimensional structure. Methods This was a cross-sectional study carried out between March and September 2018 in Valencia province (Spain). Participation in the study was voluntary. A total of 251 participants were sampled. They answered sociodemographic and medical indicators, as well as five frailty scales, including the KCL. Results Five confirmatory models wit…
Spanish Version Of The Sleep Apnoea Quality Of Life Index (SAQLI)

Ignacio de las Casas, evengelizzatore "soave".
2010
The Jesuit from Granada Ignacio de las Casas (1550-1608) wrote a composite manuscript - which included official documents, memorials, instructions and decisions - which is today kept in London British Library. The manuscript clearly shows his point of view about the painful and intricate expulsion of the moriscos from Spain between XVI and XVII century. He was not in agreement with the banishment and proscription(destierro)policy and at the time this opinion was not so widespread; he thought instead that it was necessary to leave behind the forced conversions (which compelled to simulation), but conversely to achieve a policy of integration, to abolish tax discrimination, to get moriscos ou…
Photocatalytic glucose conversion to produce hydrogen in the presence of TiO2 based materials.
2015
In the present research commercial anatase (BDH) and anatase/rutile (P25) and home prepared anatase (HPA), rutile (HPR) and brookite (HPB) TiO2 polymorphs and have been used as supports for the deposition of metallic Pt. The Pt-TiO2 samples have been tested in the glucose conversion under anaerobic conditions. The presence of Pt resulted essential for the production of H2 and the home prepared samples resulted more active than the commercial ones.
Chemo-enzymatic Conversion of Glucose in 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural: The Joint Effect of Ionic Liquids and Ultrasound
2020
For the valorization of lignocellulosic biomass, a key step is unlocking the conversion of glucose to suitable chemical platforms. To this aim, we herein describe the sequential chemo-enzymatic conversion of glucose into 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF), in two steps: glucose isomerization to fructose, catalyzed by glucose isomerase (GI) and fructose dehydration to 5-HMF promoted by Amberlyst 15. The novelty of our approach lies in the use of crude cell extracts of Streptomyces coelicolor showing GI activity, as isomerization catalysts, along with a commercial immobilized GI. Under optimized reaction conditions, we obtained a conversion to 5-HMF (C5‑HMF) from glucose of 50% in the H2O/[bmim]…
