2012
12-Monats-Katamnese. Die Fragebogenbatterie umfasste den Illness Perception Questionnaire, Vertigo Symptom Scale, Vertigo Handicap Questionnaire, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale und Physical Health Questionnaire. Hypothesenkonform verbesserte sich die personliche Kontrol…
Sonografic examination of epiaortic vessels in patients with peripheral vertigo
2010
Abstract Introduction: To evaluate the utility of echo-color-Doppler ultrasonography (CDU) of extracranial brain-supplying vessels in patients with peripheral vertigo of unknown origin. Materials and methods: One-hundred-fifty-six patients (study group; 42 male and 114 female; mean age 61.86 14.14) and 161 patients (control group; 80 male and 81 female; mean age 62.31 13.69) were prospectively evaluated with CDU of extracranial brain-supplying vessels. Plaques in common and/or internal carotid artery (CA), arterial wall intima-media thickness (IMT) of common CA and peak systolic velocity (PSV) and resistive index (RI) of vertebral arteries (VA) were evaluated. Parametric (t-test) and non-pa…

Vertigo, Masseter Paresis or Masseter Reflex Abnormality, and Impaired Caloric Response
1993
Symptoms and signs of acute peripheral-type vestibular abnormalities occasionally occur in patients with multiple sclerosis and brain-stem ischemia. Such patients may show reduced excitability of the lateral semicircular canal. From this observation, the question arises as to the location of the causative lesion.
Vaskulärer Schwindel
2002
Ischemia, hemorrhages, and other vascular disorders can result in various central or peripheral vestibular syndromes with vertigo, oculomotor/balance disturbances, and nausea. The vascular vertigo syndromes listed in Table 1 can however be brought about by other causes such as demyelitizing focuses in multiple sclerosis or space-occupying lesions, so that not only localization of the damaged structure but also the various etiologies are decisive for the choice of therapy. Occasionally, combined functional disturbances of the peripheral and central vestibular system appear, such as an infarction of the inferior anterior cerebellar artery, which supplies the labyrinth and parts of the brainste…
Positional vertigo afterwards maxillary dental implant surgery with bone regeneration
2007
Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most common form of vertigo. It is caused by loose otoconia from the utricle which, in certain positions, displaced the cupula of the posterior semicircular canal. BPPV most often is a result of aging. It also can occur after a blow to the head. Less common causes include a prolonged positioning on the back (supine) during some surgical procedures. Additionally one can include in this ethiopathogenesis the positioning required during the maxillary dental implant surgery with bone regeneration related to a forced head positioning and inner ear trauma induced by dental turbine noise working in the maxillary bone. Two cases of patients who suf…
Whiplash injure and human body balance: a force platform analysis.
2009
Whiplash injury is common trauma in occidental countries, its evaluation is estimated commonly clinically. Posturography may be used to verify body human imbalance whiplash injury related. The aim of this study was to analyze human body equilibrium in both sexes and verify if posturographic test can be used to assess body human imbalance in subjects with whiplash injury. We selected 41 volunteers of both sexes to analyze human body balance trough a force platform of health subjects and subjects with whiplash injure. Recording the Centre of Pressure (CoP) movements of these groups with open and closed eyes, we found that in both sexes, subjects with cervical injure had a significant increase…
Something Borrowed : Interfigural Characterisation in Anglo-American Fantasy Comics
2016
It is no secret that comics’ formal structure resembles a pastiche: images, words and gaps of different styles and abstraction levels mix to tell a story that is more than their sum. Is it any wonder, then, that modern, myth-driven graphic novels tend to borrow their content elements – such as characters – from several heterogeneous sources as well? Wolfgang G. Müller's little-known but widely applicable theory of interfigurality (1991) shows how literary characters gain depth and resonance by sharing elements with characters in other works. The chapter revises his theory and shows how it could also be used in the analysis of comic book characters. Fantasy comics from Vertigo series like Fa…
Intratympanic gentamicin: a 1-day protocol treatment for unilateral Meniere's disease
2006
Abstract Purpose The objective of this study was to assess the usefulness of low-dose intratympanic gentamicin administration in patients with Meniere's disease (MD). Materials and Methods We carried out a retrospective review of the charts of 55 patients with definite MD in accordance with the AAO-HNS (American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery) Diagnostic Scale who were treated at Gruppo Otologico (Piacenza, Rome, Italy). The treatment protocol consisted of 3 intratympanic injections of gentamicin at a 12-hour interval between each administration. Results Results were resumed in accordance with AAO-HNS criteria and showed complete control of vertigo spells in 60% (class A), …
