Study of Glycemic Variability Through Time Series Analyses (Detrended Fluctuation Analysis and Poincaré Plot) in Children and Adolescents with Type 1…
2016
Time series analysis provides information on blood glucose dynamics that is unattainable with conventional glycemic variability (GV) indices. To date, no studies have been published on these parameters in pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes. Our aim is to evaluate the relationship between time series analysis and conventional GV indices, and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels. This is a transversal study of 41 children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes. Glucose monitoring was carried out continuously for 72 h to study the following GV indices: standard deviation (SD) of glucose levels (mg/dL), coefficient of variation (%), interquartile range (IQR; mg/dL), mean amplitude of the la…
Ocular tilt reaction: a clinical sign of cerebellar infarctions?
2009
Ocular tilt reaction (OTR) consists of head tilt, ocular torsion (OT), and skew deviation (SKD) combined with perceptual tilts such as deviations of the subjective visual vertical (SVV). Few case reports have shown that OTR also occurs in patients with cerebellar infarctions.1–4 However, no systematic clinical studies are available on the frequency of signs of OTR in patients with cerebellar lesions. Therefore, the questions arose as to whether OTR is a common clinical sign of an acute cerebellar lesion and whether the time course of its components is similar to those from brainstem infarctions. The cerebellar structures involved in 31 patients were studied in detail elsewhere.5 ### Methods…
Reshaping Field of View and Resolution with Segmented Reflectors: Bridging the Gap between Rotating and Solid-State LiDARs
2020
This paper describes the first simulations and experimental results of a novel segmented Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) reflector. Large portions of the rotating LiDAR data are typically discarded due to occlusion or a misplaced field of view (FOV). The proposed reflector solves this problem by reflecting the entire FOV of the rotating LiDAR towards a target. Optical simulation results, using Zemax OpticStudio, suggest that adding a reflector reduces the range of the embedded LiDAR with only 3 . 9 . Furthermore, pattern simulation results show that a radially reshaped FOV can be configured to maximize point cloud density, maximize coverage, or a combination. Here, the maximum density i…
Parallelized Clustering of Protein Structures on CUDA-Enabled GPUs
2014
Estimation of the pose in which two given molecules might bind together to form a potential complex is a crucial task in structural biology. To solve this so-called "docking problem", most algorithms initially generate large numbers of candidate poses (or decoys) which are then clustered to allow for subsequent computationally expensive evaluations of reasonable representatives. Since the number of such candidates ranges from thousands to millions, performing the clustering on standard CPUs is highly time consuming. In this paper we analyze and evaluate different approaches to parallelize the nearest neighbor chain algorithm to perform hierarchical Ward clustering of protein structures usin…
Near-infrared diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and neural networks for measuring nutritional parameters in chocolate samples.
2007
Abstract A rapid and non-destructive method has been developed for the characterization of chocolate samples based on diffuse reflectance near-infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) and artificial neural networks (ANNs). This methodology provides a potentially useful alternative to time-consuming chemical methods of analysis. To assess its utility, 36 chocolate samples purchased from the Spanish market were analyzed for the determination of the main nutritional parameters like carbohydrates, fat, proteins, energetic value and cocoa content. Direct triplicate measurements of each sample were carried out by DRIFTS. Cluster hierarchical analysis was used for selecting calibration and…

L-band vegetation optical depth seasonal metrics for crop yield assessment
2018
Attenuation of surface microwave emission due to the overlying vegetation is proportional to the density of the canopy and to its water content. The vegetation optical depth (VOD) parameter measures this attenuation. VOD could be a valuable source of information on agroecosystems, especially at lower frequencies for which greater portion of the vegetation canopy contributes to the observed brightness temperature. In the past, visible-infrared indices have been used to provide yield estimates based on measuring the photosynthetic activity from the surface canopy layer. These indices are affected by clouds and apply only in the presence of solar illumination. In this study we instead use the …
The mixed capacitated general routing problem with turn penalties
2011
In this paper we deal with the mixed capacitated general routing problem with turn penalties. This problem generalizes many important arc and node routing problems, and it takes into account turn penalties and forbidden turns, which are crucial in many real-life applications, such as mail delivery, waste collection and street maintenance operations. Through a polynomial transformation of the considered problem into a Generalized Vehicle routing problem, we suggest a new approach for solving this new problem by transforming it into an Asymmetric Capacitated Vehicle routing problem. In this way, we can solve the new problem both optimally and heuristically using existing algorithms. A powerfu…
Calcifying phytoplankton standing stocks in the North Pacific from the R/V Kilo Moana cruise KM1712
2022
This dataset compiles the CaCO3 standing stocks of living coccolithophores (mg/m³), of detached coccoliths (mg/m³) and the integrated CaCO3 standing stocks of coccolithophores (mg/m²). The samples were collected in the North Pacific between Hawaii and the Gulf of Alaska during the R/V Kilo Moana cruise KM1712 in August 2017, with rosette Niskin bottles equiped with CTD (Sea-Bird SBE 9) at different depths throughout the photic zone including the deep chlorophyll maximum. To estimate the CaCO3 contribution by coccolithophore assemblages in each sample, we carried out the transformation of coccospheres in number of coccoliths, following the estimates by Yang and Wei (2003), and then we adopte…
