A low-pass velocity filter for ultracold neutrons

Abstract We have built a device to filter ultracold neutrons with axial velocities v n ≤ 8.0 m / s from faster neutrons. The apparatus has been successfully tested at the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble and is used in specific experiments, e.g., the measurement of ultracold neutron transmission through various types of neutron guides.

Objectives To develop an automated procedure to detect patient motion on the projection images acquired during a cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan and to evaluate the method's feasibility on small real-world CBCT images in relation to visual assessment. This commentary paper critically discusses the recent debate paper by Petry et al. (2014) that argued there was now an international consensus for assessing Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD). Our collective opinions vary considerably regarding many different aspects of online gaming. However, we contend that the paper by Petry and colleagues does not provide a true and representative international community of researchers in this area. This article provides an overview of the recently proposed forward model approximation framework for learning games of the general video game artificial intelligence (GVGAI) framework. In contrast to other general game-playing algorithms, the proposed agent model does not need a full description of the game but can learn the game's rules by observing game state transitions. Finding essential features for tracking starfish in a video sequence

The paper introduces a software system for detecting and tracking starfish in an underwater video sequence. The target of such a system is to help biologists in giving an estimate of the number of starfish present in a particular area of the sea-bottom. The nature of the input images is characterised by a low signal/noise ratio and by the presence of noisy background represented by pebbles; this makes the detection a non-trivial task. The procedure we use is a chain of several steps that starts from the extraction of the area of interest and ends with a classifier and a tracker providing the necessary information for counting the starfish present in the scene. © 2003 IEEE.
