This article aims at exploring the Homeric gods’ sensitivity to a particular kind of indig- nation that is expressed in the Homeric po- ems by the term nemesis and by the verbal forms arising from it. My purpose is to an- alyse the passages that allow us to establish the causes of divine nemesis towards the mortals and the gods themselves, as well as their effects. This survey also represents an opportunity for investigating the relation between the attribution of emotions to the Greek gods and the anthropomorphic repre- sentation of the divine.

Due to anthropic pressure, many areas of the world are affected by a process of soil “entisolization” that leads to the formation of “anthropogenic soils”. In order to investigate Man's role in soil evolution, a survey was carried out in Southeastern Sicily (Italy), where, for years, there have been wide farming areas with anthropogenic soils. A chronosequence of anthropogenic soils in a vineyard area, cultivated for 22 years, was investigated. The first stage of the chronosequence was made by the original soils which, in the study area, had been undisturbed till the 1980's. Abstract A new and simple method is developed to efficiently quantify erosion and deposition rates based on stock unearthing measurements. This is applicable to spatial scales ranging from plot to hillslopes, and to time scales ranging from single hydrologic events to centennial scales. The method is applied to a plot area on vineyard hillslopes in Burgundy (Monthelie, France), with measurement of 4328 vine plants. A sediment budget established at the plot scale shows a mean soil lowering of 3.44 ± 1 cm over 20 years, involving a minimal erosion rate of 1.7 ± 0.5 mm yr − 1 . In humid climate zones, like Central Europe, past soil erosion and gullying are strongly connected with agricultural expansion, and extreme soil erosion events often play an important role in land abandonment. This paper provides a case study to demonstrate the interaction between land use, soil erosion, floodplain development, and land use changes in a 0-order catchment in the Babikovce catchment, Myjava Hill Land, situated in western Slovakia. This paper reports the results of a field investigation aimed to establish morphological similarity between rills and ephemeral gullies. Rill measurements were made on 14 plots having a surface area of 22–352 m2 located on a 14·9% slope and on a plot 6·0 m wide and 22·0 m long having a uniform 22·0% slope. The plots are located on the experimental station for soil erosion measurements, ‘Sparacia’, of the Agricultural Faculty of Palermo University, in Sicily, Italy. Two T suppressor (Ts) clones of different specificity have been analyzed for their lymphokine spectrum. BVI/5 is an I-Ek-restricted bovine serum albumin (BSA)-specific Ts cell clone from a CBA/J mouse tolerized by low doses of BSA. It affects directly or indirectly the function of BSA-specific T helper (Th) cells. The Ts cell clone 178-4 from a BALB/c mouse is I-Ed restricted and recognizes the public J558 Id on B cells. It prevents alpha(1----3)dextran B 1355S (Dex)-specific IgG antibody production and drives Dex-specific J558 idiotype-bearing B cells into an anergic B IgG memory cell state.
