Gender, Care, and the Normalization of Violence: Similarities between Occupational Violence and Intimate Partner Violence in Finland

According to the statistics, violence against women is quite common in Finland, particularly in partner relationships and in care work. The present article looks at the similarities in the ways in which victims of occupational violence in care work and victims of intimate partner violence understand their experiences of violence. The commonalities among interpersonal relations are highlighted in order to offer new insights to the analysis of gender in research on occupational violence. Abstract. The Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence caused heated discussion both in society and media in Latvia. The controversy was caused because Convention is based on the understanding that violence against women is a form of gender-based violence that is committed against women because they are women. A beach umbrella intercepts all direct UV irradiance, but only part of the diffuse component. Using a simple sky view factor model, we have determined the fraction of the hemispheric diffuse irradiance that is not intercepted by the umbrella. Assuming a sensor at the surface and close to the center of the umbrella, isotropic diffuse irradiance and for an umbrella of 80 cm radius and 100 cm high, our results show that approximately 34% of the incident horizontal irradiance is not intercepted by the umbrella. AbstractViolence at school is considered to be an important issue in Spain, despite the fact that the majority of secondary education students reject it. Over the last decade awareness has been raised with regard to this problem. In this study we aim to analyze the perception of school violence held by two very different groups of secondary education students. A sample of young Muslims (n=88) and young Valencians (n=88) (aged between 12 and 18) has been used, all of whom live in the city of Valencia (Spain) and study in 12 secondary educational centers in the city. Se plantea la tesis de que el desarrollo de una ética ecopacifista puede considerarse una revolución histórica. La idea de revolución no tiene por qué ceñirse a la violencia y destrucción. En este artículo se rescatan las propuestas y formas de cambio social basadas en principios noviolentos y de armonía con la naturaleza. Se aporta una reflexión básica sobre el despliegue de una ética noviolenta y de una ética ecologista. Ambas, con la figura de Thoreau como punto de partida, y con el denominador común de haber subvertido los valores colectivos y los comportamientos individuales. Junto con el feminismo, han ampliado rotundamente el campo de los derechos y las metas justicia social.

Este artículo presenta parte de los resultados de un trabajo de campo etnográfico realizado en distintos centros de Servicios Sociales Especializados para mujeres de la Generalitat Valenciana. Su objetivo es conocer los tipos de violencia y los factores de exclusión social que subyacen en las historias de v ida de las mujeres institucionalizadas. La metodología de investigación utilizada ha sido de índole cualitativa. Abstract The UV fluorescence excitation and dispersed fluorescence spectra of a jet-cooled m-methylaniline have been obtained for the S1←S0 transition, in which some of the bands have been observed for the first time. The main spectral bands have been assigned by comparison with those of other relevant substituted benzenes. It was found that the spectra exhibit an important feature which is the internal rotation of the methyl group in the electronic ground and excited states. Ab initio calculations at MP2/6-31G* and CIS/6-31G* show that the optimized structure of m-methylaniline in the ground state is not planar with the amino group having sp3 hybridation-like character due to the existence…
