A study of VUV emission and the extracted electron-ion ratio in hydrogen and deuterium plasmas of a filament-driven H−/D− ion source

Vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) emission diagnostics for studying differences of electron impact processes in hydrogen and deuterium plasmas are presented. The method is applied to study a filament driven multicusp arc discharge negative ion source by comparing the VUV-emission intensities of different emission bands and extracted currents of H−/D− ions and electrons. It was found that the ratio of coextracted electrons to extracted ions is four times higher for deuterium than for hydrogen. No significant differences of the VUV-spectra or volumetric rates of ionization, excitation, production of high vibrational states, and dissociation were found between the plasmas of the two isotopes. In questo articolo si espongono tre modelli normativi delle pratiche di disobbedienza civile, rispettivamente i modelli proposti da Thoreau, Gandhi e Rawls. Nel saggio si mostra come i tre modelli non riescono a contemperare due desiderata della giustificazione di una pratica di disobbedienza civile: l'essere sia una manifestazione di serietà di un impegno, che per tanto intende essere un modello per gli altri cittadini, sia una strategia efficace per la eliminazione, o la riduzione del danno derivante da, norme ingiuste.

Early marriage and cultural constructions of adulthood in two slums in Dar es Salaam.

This study examines under-18 marriage in urban Tanzania from an ethnographic perspective. Due to poverty and high unemployment, some girls aspire to early marriage. Two pathways to early marriage are identified: first, poverty and gendered economic disparities motivate girls to begin transactional sexual activity at an early age, leading parents to favour early marriage as a risk-reduction measure. Second, educational opportunities are often closed off to girls before marriage, as a result of which early marriage becomes the only culturally approved pathway that allows girls to present themselves to others as a self-sufficient agent.
