Narrowed Family Spaces: Interlocking Couples in Intimate Partner Violence

Starting from a presentation of the phenomenon of intimate partner violence and of its various possible forms, this paper presents an overview of the most recent theoretical contributions on the topic, the dynamics of abuse in the couple and the main psychodynamic aspects that explain the possible manifestations and peculiarities of the effects of violence, both from the point of view of the abuser and the victim. Through the analysis of a life story, using two different measures, the authors focus their attention on the particular interlocking relationship of the couple that makes it difficult for the victim to pull himself or herself out of the perverse relationship and on the mechanisms …
Gendered positioning: Addressing gendered power and cultural discourses in therapeutic conversations

This research examined gendered positioning in therapeutic conversations, especially in treatment of intimate partner violence (IPV). A feminist-informed reading combined with a discursive psychological approach was applied in three studies on positioning in therapeutic conversations. This reading focused on gendered positioning, gendered power and cultural discourses. Thus, the aim of this research was to examine how gender is constructed in therapeutic conversations that deal with couple relationship issues, and how the power distribution this entails is addressed in these conversations. El objetivo del presente estudio fue analizar la relación existente entre la reputación social del adolescente -percibida e ideal-, y la violencia instrumental -manifiesta y relacional- en adolescentes desde una perspectiva de género. La muestra utilizada en este estudios fue de 1319 adolescentes -T1- de ambos sexos (53% chicas y 47% chicos) y de edades comprendidas entre los 11 y los 16 años (edad media 13.5; desviación típica 1.5), escolarizados en siete centros educativos de enseñanza secundaria y, de 554 estudiantes -T2- (54% chicas y 46% chicos). My research investigates the proposal of the education’s philosopher Aldo Capitini about the nonviolent teaching in the Italian Second Post-War infant and primary school and focuses on the nonviolent educational practices which has been carried out. Especially, Idana Pescioli, a teacher of the primary and infant school, has been the one to experiment new educational methodologies and a nonviolent approach in the schools of children.
