Ionic liquid crystals based on viologen dimers: tuning the mesomorphism by varying the conformational freedom of the ionic layer

ABSTRACTWe investigated the liquid crystal behaviour of newly synthesised bistriflimide salts of symmetric viologen dimers. A smectic A phase was observed for intermediate spacer lengths and for relatively long lateral alkyl chains. The systems were characterised by thermal analysis, polarised optical microscopy, X-ray scattering and solid-state NMR. An intermediate ordered smectic phase was also exhibited by the compounds (except for systems with very short lateral chains) consisting of molten layers of alkyl chains and partially ordered ionic layers. An algorithm for the derivation of atmospheric and surface biophysical products from the MEdium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer Instrument (MERIS) on board ENVIronmental SATellite (ENVISAT/MERIS) Level 1b data over land has been developed. Georectified aerosol optical thickness (AOT), columnar water vapor (CWV), spectral surface reflectance and chlorophyll fluorescence (CF) maps are generated. Emphasis has been put on implementing a robust software able to provide those products on an operational manner, making no use of ancillary parameters apart from those attached to MERIS images. El presente trabajo pretende explicar la violencia social que ha enfrentado la sociedad salvadoreña en las últimas dos décadas, desde un abordaje basado en tres ejes: políticas de seguridad ciudadana, impacto de la violencia en las comunidades y el desarrollo local, y la incidencia de las pandillas en la niñez, adolescencia y juventud salvadoreña. El 51% de los 15 millones de habitantes de Malí, son mujeres; un importante porcentaje de esta población femenina es pobre, analfabeta y está sometida diariamente, a las más diversas formas de violencia. Esta situación es debida a la atribución cultural y religiosa de un papel de subordinación y de sumisión a la mujer en general y dentro del matrimonio en especial se refleja no solamente en la familia, sino también en los distintos ámbitos sociales y jurídicos. Cabe subrayar que Malí no tiene una ley específica de protección de la mujer y del niño. Los derechos y deberes de las mujeres son dispersados en las distintas herramientas legales del Malí.
