Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and In Vivo Exposure Therapy: A Preliminary Comparison of Treatment Efficacy in Small Animal Phobia
2018
This study aggregated data from three randomized control trials to explore the differential efficacy of three forms of exposure therapy, namely, in vivo (iVET), virtual reality (VRET), and augmented reality (ARET), in the treatment of small animal phobia. Additionally, baseline patient characteristics were used to detect subgroups of patients who showed a differential response to certain treatment modalities. Primary measures were distance covered, anxiety during the behavioral avoidance test (BAT), and overall fear of small animals. A repeated-measures analysis of variance was used to explore the overall treatment effect across the exposure modalities. A cluster analysis and an analysis of…
Key challenges of new and small virtual team
2007
The purpose of this thesis is to study the factors must be noticed when building a new and small virtual team. These virtual teams are groups of people who work together without the boundaries of time or space using technology (Lipnack & Stamps 2000, 18). The main goal is to study in detail some of the common challenges faced when working with the small virtual teams, especially in the early stages of team development. With this study and the results of it, the reader is aware of the challenges of virtual teams and the differences and similarities between traditional and virtual teams. In addition the reader knows also some factors that must be noticed when a new small virtual team is suppo…
One-loop corrections to light cone wave functions: the dipole picture DIS cross section
2018
We develop methods needed to perform loop calculations in light cone perturbation theory using a helicity basis, refining the method introduced in our earlier work. In particular this includes implementing a consistent way to contract the four-dimensional tensor structures from the helicity vectors with d-dimensional tensors arising from loop integrals, in a way that can be fully automatized. We demonstrate this explicitly by calculating the one-loop correction to the virtual photon to quark-antiquark dipole light cone wave function. This allows us to calculate the deep inelastic scattering cross section in the dipole formalism to next-to-leading order accuracy. Our results, obtained using …
An intangible smart city inside the tangible historical city: the smart heritage as regeneration of euromediterranean realities
2013
The Hybridization between the visible and virtual territory has become a commonplace for much of urban population. The city is mutating into an extended form in which the visible and virtual dimensions are blurred. In this sense, the city has a physical dimension that we appropriate differently and a semiotic dimension that allows us to communicate and establish social bonds. The abstract examines how European policies is facilitating the construction of smart cities which have a cultural heritage to be safeguarded.
How to get things done in social virtual reality : A study of team cohesion in social virtual reality–enabled teams
2022
Social virtual reality (SVR) enables teams to operate in a virtual environment that simulates and enhances real-world interactions. However, there is an absence of empirical analysis of how SVR can affect the performance of virtual teams. This paper documents how SVR affects the formation of team cohesion (i.e., task cohesion and social cohesion), which is a critical success factor for team performance. To address this gap in the research, we conducted a qualitative study by interviewing 20 members from virtual teams assigned to perform a challenging collaborative task in SVR. As a contribution, our study identifies five primary affordances and 11 sub-affordances for team cohesion in SVR. W…
Learning 2.0 : the online community for apprenticeship
2012
International audience; Training courses are a strategic challenge for any organizations. E-learning solutions appears as a relevant alternative for the company training expense (fewer raised prices for the customer, fewer traveling for the learners and trainers, mentored learning, timetable flexible…). Recently, the emerging of Web 2.0 eras has shown that the online user behavior has changed. Now, the online users are likely to share their knowledge and gain acknowledgement How the construction of e-learning communities, in mobile or non-mobile using spaces, appears as efficient for distant apprenticeship? Our paper deal with a communicational approach of the e-learning for professional tr…
The politics of money utopias : methodological utopian explorations of the Banjar and the Neocracy
2022
Methodological utopianism is used to explore the potential of money via two examples, making use of simulacrum case study research. These examples are the Banjar, a traditional Balinese governance and currency system; and the Neocracy, a real cryptocurrency system. Both are considered through an integralist positioning with implications for practical utopianism and economic evaluation of community currency systems. Backgrounds on utopian studies, and money are given for contextualization of our approach. We take a heterodox economic position and use the “archaeological” approach of utopian thought. The simulacrum case study is introduced as a tool to foster political imagination about possi…
Social network site communities as agents and spaces of pursuing influence in society : forms, stages and attributes of building communicative power
2018
Before the emergence and high popularity of social media, individuals or even collectives of individual citizens rarely had strong voice in public discourse. Social media, and its social network sites (SNS), have allowed individual people to form communities to create discourse around issues they find meaningful, and even unite their power to fight for a common cause and potentially influence changes in society. The objectives of the thesis were to investigate what types of ‘societal influence (SI) oriented SNS communities’ the Internet and social media arena consists of and how their potential communicative power is formed, even to the extent that they can challenge news media and business…
