Sociability in Virtual Reality

This study investigates sociability in the context of immersive Virtual Reality (VR). A Design Science Research process was applied, and three iterative development versions of a VR application were studied. Sociability around the technology was investigated with two theoretical perspectives: social presence and social interactions. The results of qualitative interviews and observations as well as a quantitative experiment are combined to make a proposal for four design principles enhancing the beneficial sociability of VR systems. Bakalaura darba tēma ir “LGBT+ kopienas jauniešu, kā komunikatoru analīze, komunicējot ar sabiedrību virtuālajā vidē”. Bakalaura darba mērķis ir izprast ar kādiem šķēršļiem un problēmām saskaras LGBT+ kopienas jaunieši vecumā no 16 līdz 25 gadiem, komunicējot virtuālajā vidē. Teorētiskajā daļā ir aplūkota kvīru (queer) teorija, LGBT+ kopienas attīstība Latvijā un citviet pasaulē, komunikācija virtuālajā vidē mūsdienu pasaulē. This paper describes a lightweight, full portable software environment for development, simulation and control of vehicles. All the software is developed in Java so there are many advantages as portability, multithreading distribution etc. This environment simulates the vehicles integrating their non-linear differential equation systems. The study of the inner structure of hadrons allows us to understand the nature of the interactions between partons, quarks and gluons, described by Quantum Chromodynamics. The elastic scattering reactions, which have been studied in order to measure the nucleon form factors, are included in this frame. Tarkastelemme tässä katsaus artikkelissa virtuaalitodellisuusteknologian (VR) hyödyntämistä ammattikasvatuksen kentällä viimeisen kymmenen vuoden aikana. Tavoitteenamme on selvittää, minkälaista empiiristä tutkimusta aiheesta on tehty ja minkälaista lisäarvoa VR tuottaa ammattikasvatukselle 13 tutkimusartikkelin perusteella. Tulosten perusteella tutkimus VR:n hyödyntämisestä ammattikasvatuksessa on yhtäältä lisääntynyt, mutta toisaalta empiirisiä tuloksia on vielä suhteellisen vähän. This study introduces a framework to align various perceptions and objectives that different stakeholders have at the beginning of a Design Science Research (DSR) process and consolidate them into stakeholders’ strategies and theory-ingrained design artifacts. Framework Towards a Virtual Tool for the Front-End of Employee-Driven Innovation in Healthcare

This paper combines entrepreneurial behaviour and service innovation in order to investigate the use of the Idea Window; a virtual tool planned for employee-driven service development in a healthcare organisation. The empirical study investigates the tool used as a method for supporting employees' collaborative knowledge sharing in front-end of innovation in two study cases. Particularly, the research findings focus on how the virtual tool can be used for tackling the unknown - tacit knowledge, hidden possibilities, and initiatives in the context. The results are based on Idea Window entries and survey data collected in a Finnish hospital ward.
ICT-SUSTOUR and MARKETOUR: Two second language acquisition projects through a virtual learning environment

We are presenting a methodological approach that aims to increase students' motivation by asking them to develop tasks based on professional settings. In order to meet this objective a collaborative methodology was designed and applied to two multidisciplinary projects: MARKETOUR and ICT-SUSTOUR. Both projects made students face real workplace situations by working collaboratively through the use of a virtual learning environment (VLE) and other information technology (IT) tools at a national and international level.
