A multimodal analysis of british television commercials and their Influence in the audience

2018

Abstract A MULTIMODAL ANALYSIS OF BRITISH TELEVISION COMMERCIALS AND THEIR INFLUENCE IN THE AUDIENCE Advertising has been among us since ancient times; but since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution —middle of the XIX century— advertising grew at the same rate as the industrial activity did. Today, most people are constantly exposed to its messages and it is an activity for which companies spend large amounts of money. This shows that it has an impact on sales, making it a key activity in the capitalist machinery. One may wonder what makes advertising so effective. Hitherto, there have been a multitude of studies about what makes advertising such a skilful tool in convincing people. I…

Color constancy in dermatoscopy with smartphone

2017

The recent spread of cheap dermatoscopes for smartphones can empower patients to acquire images of skin lesions on their own and send them to dermatologists. Since images are acquired by different smartphone cameras under unique illumination conditions, the variability in colors is expected. Therefore, the mobile dermatoscopic systems should be calibrated in order to ensure the color constancy in skin images. In this study, we have tested a dermatoscope DermLite DL1 basic, attached to Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone. Under the controlled conditions, jpeg images of standard color patches were acquired and a model between an unknown device-dependent RGB and a device independent Lab color space h…

A naive approach to compose aerial images in a mosaic fashion

2002

There is growing interest in multiple sequence image analysis to represent those data in a new landscape, for instance reconstruction of old films, mosaicing of images. This paper focuses attention on the mosaic problem; it introduces a naive method to link together images where a common part of the scene is present among two images. An application has been developed to test the method on aerial sequences of images. Given the long distance of aircraft from the scene, the method assumes images without distortions and without problems of prospective. Moreover, the application does not need any additional parameters coming from human experience and for this reason it can be thought of as a ful…

Efficacy of an internet-based psychological intervention for problem gambling and gambling disorder: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial

2021

Gambling Disorder is a prevalent non-substance use disorder, which contrasts with the low number of people requesting treatment. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) could help to enhance the dissemination of evidence-based treatments and considerably reduce the costs. The current study seeks to assess the efficacy of an online psychological intervention for people suffering from gambling problems in Spain. The proposed study will be a two-arm, parallel-group, randomized controlled trial. A total of 134 participants (problem and pathological gamblers) will be randomly allocated to a waiting list control group (N = 67) or an intervention group (N = 67). The intervention program i…

Ethical Climate as Social Norm: Impact on Judgements and Behavioral Intentions in the Workplace.

2021

We present a study that looks at the relationship between the ethical climate, considered as a set of social norms, and judgments and behaviors in the workplace. In this case we think that an ethical rule reflecting the climate is only actualized in conduct and/or decisions if the rule is applicable, is shared, and is the subject of social expectations. A total of 277 professionals responded to a questionnaire measuring the normativity of three ethical rules, socio-moral judgment, trust in supervisors, turnover intention, and discrimination as well as abusive supervision. The results confirm our hypothesis. This leads to a different view of how the ethical climate is measured and constructe…

Appetite for destruction: A psychometric examination and prevalence estimation of destructive leadership in Sweden

2021

There is a growing awareness that destructive leadership has a significant negative impact on employe outcomes. However, little is known about the content and dimensionality of this multidimensional concept, and there are few reliable measures available for organizations and researchers to evaluate these behaviors. Based on a representative sample (N = 1132) of the Swedish workforce, the aim of this study is threefold: first, to examine the factor structure and validity of an easy-to-use multidimensional destructive leadership measure (Destrudo-L)in the general Swedish work context; second, to identify destructive leadership profiles using latent profile analysis (LPA), and determine in wha…

Accommodative Stimulus-Response Curve with Emoji Symbols

2017

Purpose. To evaluate the static measurement of the accommodative stimulus-response curve with emoji symbols. Methods. The accommodative stimulus-response curve was measured in 18 subjects using a Hartmann-Shack sensor to obtain the objective accommodative response from the Zernike defocus term. Measurements were acquired at different accommodative demands, from 0 to 3 D with a step of 0.5 D. Detailed and nondetailed emoji targets were used with two different sizes, corresponding to the two most common visual angles used in smartphones. Results. A regression analysis was performed to fit the mean results obtained for each target. The determination coefficient was R2≥0.988 for all targets. Fo…
