(Bi,Pb)2Sr2Ca2Cu3O10+δ superconductor composites: Ceramics vs. fibers

1991

Abstract Well characterized (Bi, Pb) 2 Sr 2 Ca 2 Cu 3 O 10+δ superconductor powder has been used to prepare superconductor-glass, -metal and -alloy composites through solid state reaction method. A recently developed Laser Floating Zone (LFZ) apparatus has been used to transform the ceramic precursors into oriented fibers. The diamagnetic properties have been studied by a.c. susceptibility. The microstructure of fibers has been studied by SEM and compared with that of the original ceramic precursors. XRD has been used to study phase composition on representative composite samples and fibers. The results indicate some potential for the 2223-Ag composite, which displays improved diamagnetic p…

Interface Transparency of Nb/Pd Layered Systems

2004

We have investigated, in the framework of proximity effect theory, the interface transparency T of superconducting/normal metal layered systems which consist of Nb and high paramagnetic Pd deposited by dc magnetron sputtering. The obtained T value is relatively high, as expected by theoretical arguments. This leads to a large value of the ratio $d_{s}^{cr}/ \xi_{s}$ although Pd does not exhibit any magnetic ordering.

Superconductivity suppression in Fe-implanted thin Al films

2005

At present, ion implantation into metallic systems is given increasing attention, aiming at achieving properties and functionalities of technologically valuable materials not easily available via conventional techniques. In our experiments thin Al films were implanted with Fe ions in order to find out how the superconductive properties of the metal can be modified at will. The purpose was twofold, viz., first, to study the basic physics of superconductivity in low-dimensional metallic structures doped with impurities. The second purpose was to apply ion implantation for the suppression of undesired superconductivity in aluminum widely used for fabrication of micro- and nanodevices operated …

Structure and electrical resistivity of mixed-valent EuNi2P2 at high pressure.

2014

The structural properties and electrical resistivity of homogeneous mixed-valent EuNi2P2 are studied at pressures up to 45 GPa. No structural phase transition is observed in the whole pressure range and the overall pressure behavior of the structural parameters is similar to that of related compounds in the collapsed tetragonal ThCr2Si2-type structure. Electrical resistivity measured up to 31 GPa at temperatures between 4 and 300 K exhibits continuous changes from the behavior typical for a mixed-valent Eu system to that of a normal metallic system at pressures above 20 GPa, indicating a transition of the strongly mixed-valent Eu atoms with a valence ~2.5 towards a pure trivalent state. No …

Polymer solution processing of (Bi, Pb)SrCaCuO

1991

Abstract A simple polymer processing route to the 110 K phase (Bi, Pb) 2 Sr 2 Ca 2 Cu 3 O 10+δ superconductor has been developed. The influence of the polymer to metal starting ratio, as well as the sintering temperature and time on the quality of the resulting superconducting powders has been studied by XRD, a.c. susceptibility and resistivity measurements. Microstructure of ceramic compacts has been studied by SEM, and qualitatively analysed by EDS for compositional homogeneity. The results indicate that the polymer synthesis route described here may offer a good alternative to the conventional solid state preparation methods towards attaining homogeneous 110 K superconductor powder withi…

Effects of Weak Links in the Nonlinear Microwave Response of MgB2 Superconductor

2006

We report experimental results of second-harmonic (SH) response at microwave frequency in several ceramic MgB2 samples, prepared by different methods. The SH signal has been investigated as a function of the temperature and DC magnetic field. The investigation has been carried out at low magnetic fields, where nonlinear processes arising from motion of Abrikosov fluxons are ineffective. We show that the low-temperature SH emission is ascribable to processes involving weak links. Comparison among the peculiarities of the SH signal radiated by the different samples shows that the presence of weak links strongly depends on the sample preparation method, as well as the purity and morphology of …

Capturing digital data of rock magnetic, gamma-ray and IR spectrometry for in-situ quality control and for the study of the physical–chemical regime …

2014

Abstract Residual kaolin deposits are operated on a worldwide basis. The majority of them is derived from chemical weathering of felsic rocks during the Cenozoic. This is true for the kaolin deposits on the western edge of the Bohemian Massif. Here this type of deposit provides industrial minerals for the ceramic industry in SE Germany. This raw material formed under tropical climatic conditions during the Miocene and Pliocene across a vast peneplain. Only within the Naab-Wondreb Depression, however, were economic accumulations preserved from erosion. Here near Tirschenreuth, kaolin has been mined since its discovery in 1830. The semi-consolidated regolith is composed of quartz and opaline …

Incorporation of trace metals Cu, Zn, and Cd into gypsum: Implication on their mobility and fate in natural and anthropogenic environments

2020

Abstract The coexistence of calcium (Ca2+), sulfate (SO42−) with trace metal cations (M(II)) can possibly lead to M(II)-gypsum coprecipitation and solid solution formation. However, gypsum's role in the fixation of M(II) is still largely unknown. This study investigated the precipitation of Ca2+ and SO42− in the presence of M(II) (i.e., Cu2+, Zn2+, or Cd2+) and the incorporation of the metal cations into the gypsum structure at different environmental conditions. Trace metals in two natural gypsum samples (Yunnan and Neimeng, China) and one hydrometallurgical byproduct gypsum sample from a Cu refinery were also assessed.

Optimization of the Surface Roughness Equation obtained by Al7136 End-Milling

2017

The aim of this paper is to optimize the regression equation of the surface roughness obtained by 7136 aluminium alloy machined by end-milling process. The surface roughness is dependent on certain process parameters, which can vary, causing in this way variations of the surface quality. The research method used in this paper is the experiment and the Taguchi design of experiment. The experiment was performed using an experimental stand, in which every step to get the purpose, is presented. The measurements were made using a portable surface roughness tester. In the first part of the paper the influence percentage of the involved parameters in the machining process, was determined. Then, a …
