An efficient synthetic strategy for the preparation of monodisperse colloidal core/shell architectures with reactive epoxy functionalities is reported, based on the bifunctional vinylphenylglycidyl ether monomer. Accessibility of the reactive immobilized epoxy moieties was quantified by UV/vis spectroscopy in an isorefractive medium. Inorganic–organic hybrid raspberry-type architectures revealed a tremendous inpact on the surface wettability of water.
Use of kinetic DTA and TG methods for compatibility tests on 2,4,6--trinitrotoluene

We have investigated the suitability of thermoanalytical methods for compatibility tests on explosives and contact materials. DTA and TG curves of various materials were evaluated using two DTA and four TG methods and one DSC method. TNT was used as model substance. The contact materials were paraffin, polyethylene, an epoxy resin paint and an epoxy glue. In earlier tests the first two were found compatible and the latter two incompatible with TNT. None of the methods provides an absolute value for the activation energy. However, in compatibility tests only the relative change in the activation energy is of interest and, for this, three of the methods proved informative.

International audience; A new synthetic pathway for the direct synthesis of water soluble gold nanoparticles (GNPs) already possessing terminal alkene functional groups was developed. This is achieved by using synthesized (1-hydroxy-1-phosphonopent-4-enyl)phosphonic acid (HMBPene), presenting advantages of the well known bisphosphonate coating applied to colloidal gold instead of metal oxides. The proposed protocol allowed an accurate control of the particle size in the 13–20 nm diameter range with a high spherical uniformity, which is a crucial point for these colloids' properties. Electrochemical oxidation of organics at metal oxide electrodes: The incineration of oxalic acid at IrO2-Ta2O5 (DSA-O2) anode

Abstract The electrochemical incineration of oxalic acid (OA) at Ti/IrO2–Ta2O5 (DSA-O2) anode was investigated to find the influence of the operative parameters on the performances of the process. Polarization curves and chronoamperometric measurements indicate the probable occurrence of a direct electrochemical oxidation of OA at the surface of the DSA anode. In incineration electrolyses, the performances of the process in terms of OA conversion and current efficiency dramatically depend on the adopted operative conditions. Gold catalysts with loading 1 and 10 wt % were-prepared by deposition precipitation method with urea over mesoporous manganese oxide, obtained through a surfactant-assisted procedure by using cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), followed by treatment with sulphuric acid. For comparison, Au(10 wt %) was also deposited over commercial CeO2 and SiO2 supports. The materials were characterized by XRD and EXAFS at the Mn K and Au L-III edges and XPS. Alkali-activated adsorbents were synthesized by mixing three different slags from the steel industry: blast furnace slag (BFS), ladle slag (LS), and Lintz–Donawitz converter slag (LD). These powdered slag-based geopolymers (GP) were used to remove nickel(II) from aqueous solutions in fixed-bed column studies. The experiments were conducted in pH 6 using a phosphate buffer with initial nickel(II) concentration of 50 mg/L. Samples were taken at time intervals of between 5 and 90 min.
