Semiconductive and Magnetic One-Dimensional Coordination Polymers of Cu(II) with Modified Nucleobases

2013

Four new copper(II) coordination complexes, obtained by reaction of CuX2 (X = acetate or chloride) with thymine-1-acetic acid and uracil-1-propionic acid as ligands, of formulas [Cu(TAcO)2(H2O)4]·4H2O (1), [Cu(TAcO)2(H2O)2]n (2), [Cu3(TAcO)4(H2O)2(OH)2]n·4H2O (3), and [Cu3(UPrO)2Cl2(OH)2(H2O)2]n (4) (TAcOH = thymine-1-acetic acid, UPrOH = uracil-1-propionic acid) are described. While 1 is a discrete complex, 2-4 are one-dimensional coordination polymers. Complexes 2-4 present dc conductivity values between 10(-6) and 10(-9) S/cm(-1). The magnetic behavior of complex 2 is typical for almost isolated Cu(II) metal centers. Moderate-weak antiferromagnetic interactions have been found in complex…

Expanding the 2, 2’-bipyrimidine bridged 1D homonuclear coordination polymers family: [MIIbpymCl2] (M=Fe, Co) magnetic and structural characterization

2013

One pot reaction of hydrated chloride salts of Fe(II) and Co(II) with stoichiometric amounts of 2, 2’-bipyrimidine (bpym) in a methanol/ acetonitrile mixture afforded the corresponding 1D homonuclear coordination polymers, [μ-(bpym)MCl2]n. Crystal structures of both complexes are isomorphous in the highly symmetric orthorhombic space group Fddd. The 1D coordination polymers are composed of almost orthogonal alternating bipyrimidine bridges linking the {MCl2} units. The magnetic behaviour of the Fe(II)compound can be well understood as a uniform S=2 chain with antiferromagnetic exchange interaction between metal ion sites. In the case of the Co(II) ion, also an antiferromagnetic interaction …

Unusual Formation of a Stable 2D Copper Porphyrin Network

2013

Copper(II) 5,15-bis(diethoxyphosphoryl)-10,20-diphenylporphyrin was obtained and characterized by means of cyclic voltammetry, electron paramagnetic resonance, Fourier transform infrared, and UV-visible spectroscopy. Three crystalline forms were grown and studied by means of X-ray diffraction methods (single crystal and powder). The highly electron-withdrawing effect of phosphoryl groups attached directly to the porphyrin macrocycle results in a self-assembling process, with formation of a stable 2D coordination network, which is unusual for copper(II) porphyrins. The resulting 2D structure is a rare example of an assembly based on copper(II) porphyrins where the copper(II) central metal io…

Electrochemical synthesis and structural characterization of Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes of N,N-bis(4,5-dimethyl-2-hydroxybenzyl)-N-(2-pyridy…

2009

The electrochemical oxidation of anodic metal (cobalt, nickel or copper) in a cell containing an acetonitrile solution of the ligand N,N-bis(4,5-dimethyl-2-hydroxybenzyl)-N-(2-pyridylmethyl)amine (H2L) affords complexes [Co2L2].H2O (1), [Ni3L3] (2) and [Cu2L2] 3H2O (4). On using nickel as the anode and the addition to the solution electrolytic phase of the amount of water necessary to saturate the solution, the electrolytic process gave rise to the new compound [Ni2L2(H2O)1.5].CH3CN (3). Compounds 1 and 4 are dimeric and the metal atoms are pentacoordinated. Compound 3 also consists of dimeric neutral molecules with the nickel atoms in both penta- and hexacoordinated environments. The cryst…

A phenoxo-bridged dicopper(ii) complex as a model for phosphatase activity: mechanistic insights from a combined experimental and computational study

2017

A μ-phenoxo-bis(μ2-1,3-acetato)-bridged dicopper(II) complex [CuII2(L1)(μ-O2CMe)2][NO3] (1) has been synthesized from the perspective of modeling phosphodiesterase activity. Structural characterization was done initially with 1·3Et2O (vapour diffusion of Et2O into MeOH solution of 1; poor crystal quality) and finally with its perchlorate salt [CuII2(L1)(μ-O2CMe)2][ClO4]·1.375MeCN·0.25H2O, crystallized from vapour diffusion of n-pentane into a MeCN–MeOH mixture (comparatively better crystal quality). An asymmetric unit of such a crystal contains two independent molecules of compositions [CuII2(L1)(μ-O2CMe)2][ClO4] and [CuII2(L1)(μ-O2CMe)2(MeCN)][ClO4] (coordinated MeCN with 0.75 occupancy), …

An Intermetallic Au24Ag20 Superatom Nanocluster Stabilized by Labile Ligands

2015

An intermetallic nanocluster containing 44 metal atoms, Au24Ag20(2-SPy)4(PhC≡C)20Cl2, was successfully synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal analysis and density funtional theory computations. The 44 metal atoms in the cluster are arranged as a concentric three-shell Au12@Ag20@Au12 Keplerate structure having a high symmetry. For the first time, the co-presence of three different types of anionic ligands (i.e., phenylalkynyl, 2-pyridylthiolate, and chloride) was revealed on the surface of metal nanoclusters. Similar to thiolates, alkynyls bind linearly to surface Au atoms using their σ-bonds, leading to the formation of two types of surface staple units (PhC≡C-Au-L, L …

Coordination of Cu2+ Ions to C2 Symmetric Pseudopeptides Derived from Valine

2010

The acid-base and coordination properties of a family of pseudopeptidic ligands with C(2) symmetry derived from valine (4a-e) have been studied using a variety of techniques as a model for metal coordination in peptides and proteins. The Cu(2+) cation has been selected for coordination studies, although, for comparison, some results for Zn(2+) are also presented. Good agreement has been obtained between the results obtained by potentiometric titrations, spectroscopic analysis, and mass spectrometry (ESI) studies. These results highlight the potential for the use of ESI MS for characterizing the nature of the complex species formed. Clearly, the Cu(2+) complexes are much more stable than the…

Oxidative DNA cleavage induced by an iron(III) flavonoid complex: synthesis, crystal structure and characterization of chlorobis(flavonolato)(methano…

2006

A flavonol iron(III) complex, [Fe(flavonolato)(2)Cl(MeOH)], has been prepared. The compound has been characterized by X-ray crystallography, spectroscopy, magnetism and electronic paramagnetic resonance (EPR) at X- and Q-band. The geometrical environment around the metal is best described as rhombic distorted octahedral. This distortion has also been inferred from the magnetic measurements and from the EPR spectra at different temperatures, E/D(rhombicity parameter) approximately 0.06. The DNA cleavage activity of the iron(III) complex with and without ascorbate/hydrogen peroxide is reported. Mechanisms of the oxidative cleavage have been proposed when DNA strand scission is performed both …

Comparative Studies on IR, Raman, and Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering Spectroscopy of Dipeptides Containing ΔAla and ΔPhe

2012

Three dipeptides containing dehydroresidues (\DeltaAla, \Delta (Z)Phe, and \Delta (E)Phe) were examined by IR, Raman, and surface-enhanced Raman techniques for the first time. The effect of the size and isomer type of the β -substituent in the dehydroresidue on the conformational structure of the peptide was evaluated by using the analysis of IR and Raman bands. Additionally, SERS spectroscopy provided insight into the adsorption mechanism of these species on the metal surface. SERS spectra were recorded at alkaline pH on the silver sol using visible light excitation. The dehydroresidues studied here strongly influenced the SERS profile of the peptides. The most pronounced SERS signal for a…

Styryl-pyrones from Goniothalamus arvensis

1998

Two novel styrl-pyrones, (+)-garvensintriol and (+)-etharvendiol, together with a known cytotoxic furano-furone, (+)-goniofufurone, have been isolated from the stem bark of Goniothalamus arvensis. A different relative configuration, cis-erythro-erythro for garvensintriol and cis-threo-erythro for etharvendiol, is established, and their absolute stereochemistry is discussed.
