BODIPY-phosphane as a versatile tool for easy access to new metal-based theranostics

A new BODIPY-phosphane was synthesized and proved to be a versatile tool for imaging organometallic complexes. It also led to easy access to a new family of theranostics, featuring gold, ruthenium and osmium complexes. The compounds' cytotoxicity was tested on cancer cells, and their cell uptake was followed by fluorescence microscopy in vitro.

Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) is widely used in manufacturing, medical, aircraft applications and, virtually, all areas of conductive material machining. The process involves a series of very complex electrical, thermodynamical and electromagnetical phenomena that are still partially unknown. The heavy fraction of biooil was used as a binder for the charcoal ore pellet preparation. The effect of heat treatment temperature on the pellet shrinkage was related to the degree of reduction which varied with feedstock and ore composition. XAFS Studies of High-Valent Porphyrinato Manganèse Complexes with Ozone

We produce strong evidence of the interaction of ozone with a series of Manganese (III) porphyrinato complexes to form a well defined reactive intermediate. In the latter species, the Manganese atom which is formally in a tetravalent (IV) state, is (at least) hexacoordinated with the metal unambiguously lying in the basal plane of the four pyrrolic nitrogens of the porphyrin macrocycle. Substitution of Bromine or Chlorine axial ligands by ozonids is most likely to happen. This conclusion is also supported by XANES and EXAFS spectra recorded at the Chlorine K-edge which suggest that ozone may even form with chlorine a complex anion.

Size, Form and Flexibility of the Rubber Molecule

Abstract Natural rubber can be brominated in dilute cyclohexane solution, whereby the molecular weight, corresponding to the bromine content, increases. For brominated rubber, increasing bromine content makes cyclohexane an increasingly poorer solvent, which is shown by a contraction of the molecule coils and a decrease in the second virial coefficient. Quantitative results were obtained through viscosity and light scattering measurements. Cyclohexane solutions of brominated rubber containing about 43% bromine have a θ point at room temperature. Multiple-scan voltammetry and OCP: Archaeometric tools for dating archaeological bronzes

[EN] The application of a multiple-scan strategy to nanosamples taken from 18 cross-sections of Bronze Age arms and armour, as well as two Roman coins using two solid-state electrochemical techniques, the voltammetry of immobilized microparticles (VIMP) and open circuit potential measurements (OCP) is described. A Solar Photothermocatalytic approach for the CO2 conversion: Investigation of different synergisms on CoO-CuO/Brookite TiO2-CeO2 catalysts

Abstract The photoactive features of the least common polymorph of TiO2, i.e. brookite, were combined with the thermocatalytic redox ones of cerium oxide, focusing on the effects of the addition of small amounts of Co-Cu oxides for the solar CO2 conversion. By considering the characterization data, a surface segregation of the hosted metal oxides on the TiO2-CeO2 composite was evidenced, and their presence increased the amount of oxygen vacancies and improved the charge carriers separation. The bimetallic oxides-based sample was the most performing one in the photocatalytic carbon dioxide reduction at room temperature. Wing feather moult and age determination of Snowy Owls Bubo scandiacus.

Moult of primary and secondary flight feathers of Snowy Owls Bubo scandiacus was studied from 53 museum specimens retaining some juvenile feathers. There were no ringed Snowy Owls of known age in the skin material, and the moult pattern has thus been interpreted using the moult of Eagle Owls Bubo bubo as a model. The difference between juvenile and adult primaries is described. Greater coverts may facilitate age determination of single flight feathers. Snowy Owls start their first flight feather moult M1 by shedding the innermost 2-6 secondaries during their second summer (as 2C birds). Ultrasonication as a Method of Investigation of the Mechanical Properties of Doped Hafnium Barium Titanate

The purpose of this study was to fabricate dense ceramic specimens from the system of BaTiO3-BaHfO3 and then to perform mechanical tests. The effect of Hf content on a microstructure and mechanical properties of the BaTiO3-BaHfO3 solid solution was investigated at room temperature. To determine the elastic constants (the Young′s modulus E, the shear modulus G, bulk modulus K and the Poisson′s ratio v) of BaHfxTi1-xO3 a method of measurement of the longitudinal (VL ) and transverse (VT ) ultrasonic wave velocities for this type of material was developed.

Tensile behaviour of anti-symmetric CFRP composite

Abstract This paper addresses the response of a 17-ply anti-symmetric carbon/epoxy composite subjected to uniaxial tensile loading. Hashin ply damage model is adopted to describe the damage behaviour of the plies, whereas damage initiation and progression of the interfaces are characterised by mixed-mode cohesive damage model. Force-displacement curves obtained numerically and experimentally show good agreement. Results show that all laminae and interfaces experience the damage except laminae with 0o fibre. In addition, damage is concentrated at the tab and central regions of the tensile specimen. Edge delamination is observed in all interfaces.
