Use of The Eggshells in Removing Heavy Metals from Waste Water - The Process Kinetics and Efficiency
2019
Abstract Studies of the efficiency of Ni, Cu and Cd cations removal from water solutions were carried out, with the use of clay limestone, hen eggshells from eggs for consumption and hen eggshells after hatching, which main element is calcium carbonate. Hen eggshells are a waste product, which can be used as a substitute of clay limestone in removing heavy metals from wet flue gas desulphurisation installation. Mixed solutions of Ni, Cu and Cd were used in the research, with the composition similar to the waste water from wet flue gas desulphurisation installation: Ni (0.009-0.053 mmol/dm3), Cu (0.008-0.057 mmol/dm3) and Cd (0.003-0.008 mmol/dm3). The metals were determined by flame atomic …
CHARACTERIZATION OF IRON COMPOUNDS FROM URBAN AND RURAL AEROSOL SOURCES
2000
Abstract Iron plays an important role in the chemistry and physics (by varying the hygroscopicity) of the atmosphere. Bulk samples were taken from an air-conditioning device, from the electrofilter of a gas–oil power station of the Technical University of and from rural sites near Darmstadt, situated between medium-altitude mountains and with a climate dominated by air masses from the west. Samples were collected in urban and rural (meadow) air, from different waste incineration power stations, from the exhausts of a gasoline and from a diesel motor car, and from a private gas fired heating system. The samples were characterized for elemental composition by total reflection X-ray fluorescen…
Apatite and clinopyroxene as tracers for metasomatic processes in nepheline clinopyroxenites of Uralian-Alaskan-type complexes in the Ural Mountains,…
2013
Clinopyroxene and apatite are found to trace metasomatic processes in nepheline-bearing clinopyroxenites (tilaites) from the igneous, mafic-ultramafic Uralian-Alaskan-type complexes of Kytlym and Nizhny Tagil, Ural Mountains, Russian Federation. The clinopyroxenites consist predominantly of coarse-grained, partially to totally altered clinopyroxene phenocrysts in a matrix of fine-grained olivine, clinopyroxene, plagioclase, K-feldspar, and nepheline. Apatite occurs as idiomorphic inclusions (2O-, Na2O-, and Al2O3-bearing fluid. During conversion of the plagioclase, CaO and SiO2 were partitioned into the fluid. Altered areas in the clinopyroxene phenocrysts are characterized by the redistrib…
Chemical composition and roughness of enamel and composite after bleaching, acidic beverages and toothbrushing
2019
Background In this study was assessed the surface roughness and chemical composition of tooth enamel and composite resin after bleaching treatment, immersion in acidic beverages, and simulated toothbrushing. Material and methods One hundred and twenty dental blocks (10 x 10 x 3 mm) were randomly assigned (n = 10) according to surface treatment [none (N), bleaching (B), toothbrushing (T), and B+T] and storage medium [saliva (S), whiskey (W), and orange juice (O)]: experimental groups - N+S, N+W, N+O, B+S, B+W, B+O, S+T, W+T, O+T, B+S+T, B+W+T, and B+O+T. Two bleaching sessions were conducted using 38% hydrogen peroxide (3 applications). Surface roughness was measured using a roughness tester…
Laser-Induced Fluorescence Imaging of Paper Surfaces
1993
Laser-induced fluorescence imaging has been used to study the microstructure of paper surfaces. Pulses from a XeCl-excimer laser, 10 ns in duration at 308 nm, were used for excitation, and fluorescence was collected at 420 nm. The excitation spot diameter was approximately 20 µm, and the sampling interval 0.15 mm. Within an area of 5*5 mm2, 1023 sampling points were recorded to generate 3D fluorescence maps of paper surfaces. Papers containing fluorescence whitening agents (FWAs) gave the highest average fluorescence signals. Coated papers with no FW As show weaker signals than the base sheet. For some thirty different paper samples, an obvious correlation between the amount of coating and…

2021
A new, fast, and automatic approach has been applied for the tentative identification of unknown substances released by food contact epoxy resin after performing a migration test with food simulant. This approach combines intelligent data acquisition with AcquireX linked to liquid chromatography-Orbitrap Tribrid high-resolution mass spectrometry using data dependent-tandem mass spectrometry with triple stage fragmentation coupled to Compound Discoverer™ software for automated data processing and compound identification. The identification of the observed features was performed using a set of identification criteria, including exact mass, isotope pattern, tandem mass spectrometry spectra mat…
The Reduction Pathway of End-on Coordinated Dinitrogen. II. Electronic Structure and Reactivity of Mo/W−N2, −NNH, and −NNH2 Complexes
2001
DFT calculations (B3LYP/LanL2DZ) of simplified models of [Mo(N(2))(2)(dppe)(2)] and the two protonated derivatives [MoF(NNH)(dppe)(2)] and [MoF(NNH(2))(dppe)(2)](+) (dppe = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane) provide quantitative insight into the reduction and protonation of dinitrogen bound end-on terminally to transition metals. This "asymmetric" reduction pathway is characterized by a stepwise increase of covalency and a concomitant charge donation from the metal center during each protonation reaction. The major part of metal-to-ligand charge transfer occurs after the first protonation leading to coordinated diazenido(-). In contrast, addition of the second proton is accompanied by a mino…
Capillary electrophoresis–inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry hyphenation for the determination at the nanogram scale of metal affinities an…
2012
Abstract A screening strategy based on hyphenated capillary electrophoresis and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (CE–ICP-MS) was developed to classify phosphorylated ligands according to their europium(III) binding affinity in a hydro-organic medium (sodium formate, pH 3.7, H2O/MeOH 90:10, v/v). Taking advantage of the high sensibility of ICP-MS for detecting phosphorus, this method enabled to assess the affinity of a variety of phosphorylated compounds, including phosphine oxides, thiophosphines, phosphonates, and phosphinates, in less than 1 h and using less than 5 ng of substance. By varying the total europium concentration, complexation constants could be determined accordin…
Electrical resistivity of simple metal amorphous alloys at moderately low temperatures
2003
Abstract An approach is developed that allows to explain the unusual dependence of the electrical resistivity ρ(T) of amorphous alloys on temperature T. Interactions between the free electrons and the longitudinal acoustic excitations in the small-wavelength region (“the roton region”) are shown to cause such a behaviour of ρ(T) at moderately low temperatures. The features of the electron–phonon interactions in an amorphous alloy as compared to the crystal state case are discussed. The theory is illustrated by numerical calculations of the electrical resistivity ρ(T) for Mg–Zn and Cu–Sn amorphous alloys at the different alloy concentrations in the 0 K temperature range. Qualitative agreemen…
Determination of dynamic properties of flax fibres reinforced laminate using vibration measurements
2017
International audience; Experimental and numerical methods to identify the linear viscoelastic properties of flax fibre reinforced polymer (FFRP) composite are presented in this study. The method relies on the evolution of storage modulus and loss factor as observed through the frequency response. Free-free symmetrically guided beams were excited in the dynamic range of 10 Hz to 4 kHz with a swept sine excitation focused around their first modes. A fractional derivative Zener model has been identified to predict the complex moduli. A modified ply constitutive law has been then implemented in a classical laminates theory calculation (CLT) routine. Overall, the Zener model fitted the experime…
