Nye innovative bedrifter på Agder

2014

The Use of Ca- and Mg-Rich Fly Ash as a Chemical Precipitant in the Simultaneous Removal of Nitrogen and Phosphorus - Recycling and Reuse

2019

The European Union’s circular economy strategy aims to increase the recycling and re-use of products and waste materials. According to the strategy, the use of industry waste material should be more effective. A chemical precipitation method to simultaneously remove phosphorus and nitrogen from synthetic (NH4)2HPO4 solution and the liquid phase of anaerobic digestate using fly ash as a precipitant was tested. Fly ash is a waste material formed in the power plant process. It mainly contains calcium oxide (CaO) and magnesium oxide (MgO). Saturated precipitant solution was prepared from fly ash, which was added in small proportions to (NH4)2HPO4 solution during the experiment. Fly ash’s effect…

Implementing an institutional change in a regional context : A case study of telemedicine implementation and diffusion in Agder

2018

Master's thesis Information Systems IS501 - University of Agder 2018 High life expectancy, aging population and an increasing chronic diseases generates new challenges for the current global healthcare (Brouard, Bardo, Vignot, Bonnet, & Vignot, 2014). Public agencies and business corporates have shown interest inadvances technological research and innovation projects to remedy the problem. Innovating in public sector is highly challengingand results shouldn’t be taken for granted (Dacin, Goodstein, & Scott, 2002). Further, there is a lack of understanding how public innovations are created (Sørensen & Torfing, 2011). Theoretically the thesis builds on two strands of theories: institutional …

Self-Efficacy Between Previous and Current Mathematics Performance of Undergraduate Students: An Instrumental Variable Approach to Exposing a Causal …

2021

PurposeSelf-efficacy has been argued theoretically and shown empirically to be an essential construct for students’ improved learning outcomes. However, there is a dearth of studies on its causal effects on performance in mathematics among university students. Meanwhile, it will be erroneous to assume that results from other fields of studies generalize to mathematics learning due to the task-specificity of the construct. As such, attempts are made in the present study to provide evidence for a causal relationship between self-efficacy and performance with a focus on engineering students following a mathematics course at a Norwegian university.MethodThe adopted research design in the presen…

Field conversations as a data source in qualitative social research

2020

Itsen rakentaminen menestyskulttuurissa

2008

Tutkimuksessa tarkastellaan itsesuhteen rakentamista menestyskulttuurissa. Tutkimuksella on kolme tehtävää. Ensimmäisenä tutkimuksen tehtävänä on rekonstruoida menestyskulttuuri tutkimuskohteena. Toinen tutkimustehtävänä on kuvata empiirisesti itsesuhteen rakentamista menestyskulttuurissa. Kolmantena tutkimustehtävänä on tulkita menestyskulttuurin aineistoa laajemmasta moderniteetin kehyksestä ja taloudesta käsin. Tutkimuksen empiirinen aineisto koostuu elämäntapakirjallisuudesta sekä yritysja elämäntapavalmennusta käsittelevistä internetsivuista. Elämäntapakirjallisuus muodostuu varsin heterogeenisesta joukosta yritysvalmennuksen, elämäntapavalmennuksen, voimavara- ja ratkaisukeskeisen ja …

Analysis and description of an open source janitor project

2006

Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2006 - Høgskolen i Agder, Grimstad The objective of this study is to describe the inside and impact of the Linux Kernel Janitor Project. To describe and discuss how such janitor activity can be useful for others is also an objective. The Linux Kernel Janitor Project is a project defined to perform maintenance of the Linux kernel source, often taking on tasks that nobody else will be doing. The patches produced by the janitors have been analysed and some of the effects and properties of the work the project has carried out are described. Analysis show that janitor activity reduces the amount of code while still keeping the same functio…

Reporting in Conflict Zones in Pakistan: Risks and Challenges for Fixers

2020

As a backbone of reporting in war and conflicts, fixers offer essential assistance to the foreign correspondent in conflict zones, also in Pakistan. With valuable local knowledge and contacts, fixers can arrange travel to secure entry of foreign correspondents into conflict zones in addition to securing interviews with otherwise unattainable figures, while offering reliable translation services. Pakistani media, despite being one of the largest and most developed in South Asia, remains under the strict control of powerful military establishment and government, while seeming to mirror the overarching government sentiment with a distinct lack of research-based news. Challenging this state of …

Multiple-batch spawning: a risk-spreading strategy disarmed by highly intensive size-selective fishing rate

2022

Can the advantage of risk-managing life-history strategies become a disadvantage under human-induced evolution? Organisms have adapted to the variability and uncertainty of environmental conditions with a vast diversity of life-history strategies. One such evolved strategy is multiple-batch spawning, a spawning strategy common to long-lived fishes that ‘hedge their bets' by distributing the risk to their offspring on a temporal and spatial scale. The fitness benefits of this spawning strategy increase with female body size, the very trait that size-selective fishing targets. By applying an empirically and theoretically motivated eco-evolutionary mechanistic model that was parameterized for …
